Seriously people need to open their minds more. I admit that the first movie...well it reminded me of nothing so much as reading a good book. Which is a first for me. It requires more thought and imagination and not everything it obvious and handed to you on a silver platter.
I would very much like to 'read' the next chapter of this story.

Same here. I hated AVP:R and was ready to crucify "Skyline", but it turned
out being actually fairly solid B-movie fodder which i'd definitely
be interested in seeing continue.
I hope Skyline 2 makes it in SOME form, even if it's direct to DVD.

I'd definitely watch a sequel. It wasn't a perfect film, by any means, but it was better than half the other bigger budget 'hit' films of recent months.
What they need to do, is simply get a better script, with better characters. The basic story of Skyline was fine. It was the dull characters, clichéd interpersonal 'conflicts' and illogical bits that damaged it badly. It luckily turned out to be pretty fun B-movie stuff by the end (As Drew says!), but it could've been so much more. (Also, a more likeable actor than Balfour, would have helped)
I have to say, I thought the ending was great fun, and easily the most grin-inducing part of the film. That was classic 'fun' science fiction at its best. Brain transplants into powerful monsters to save the girl? Straight out of Edgar Rice Burroughs! My favourite author lol! (Read 'Synthetic Men of Mars' if you want to know what I mean) ;-)
If the Strause's ever come on here to check out what people are saying... Hey guys, I'm more than happy to give the sequel script a shot for free, if you promise you'd read it lol! :-) Just give me the word! I'd even love to work on the production design, which is something I can't get enough of. :-)

I don't understand your comment about Balfour not being a likeable actor--I thought he did a fine job considering the material wasn't that strong & somewhat cliched.
shareHe played the part okay, but he just isn't 'leading man' material (For that kind of part, anyway). He looked and acted too much like he would be perfectly suited to any number of 'gangsta' type roles. Covered in tatoos, wearing the vest to show off his muscles and look 'cool'... etc... He just looked like he should've been running around holding a 9mm, side-on, saying lines like "Yo, I is gonna pop a cap in yo a$$, mo-fo!" ;-) All he was missing was some excessive jewellery.
As for Donald Faison, I like him as an actor, and he could've been good. Instead, it seemed like they wanted to make his character into some cool rapper or something, then at the last minute added a few lines to imply he was a special effects guy (Which actually would've been a nice, interesting, against-type character, instead of the really standard clichéd one we got).

Not a great movie but I don't get the hate for it all. Not every movie has to be a multi billion dollar blockbuster.
Was it independence day? No. But it was a different goal. A thriller Alien sci fi horror movie. It did that alright. Will I see the second one in theaters? Not likely but I will definately rent it at the least to check out the next part of the story.
I agree about the book imagination comparison. I don't like how movies have to dish everything to you today. It felt scarier this way. We don't exactly know their motives and it had a bit of a twist ending. Not the best ending and no real closure but maybe that is what could make a second one actually really fun to watch. I admit. I am at least curious to see where they will go with it.
I guess I viewed Eric Balfour's look as being consistent with his occupation of painter---hipper than your conventional leading man in this type of movie. So I did not have the same issue with him being the lead as you did--- but then different points of view make the world go round.
sharei though the black guy shoulda been saying things like 'shut that fracking dog or i'll shoot him in the face". and "oh frack frack.." when he's hiding behind that counter. comic relieve is always nice. as for the leading man, he kinda looked the part, but he should of been a bit more physically intimidating.
the leads acting was terrible. not just the script I've seen good acting with terrible dialogue before so thats not a good excuse. all the acting was pretty terrible.
the concept and storyline as someone said before was yes slow in pace, but eerily beautiful. the concept was sick although borrowed and a tribute but so? the best camerawork and beautiful shots in film were of the blue lights coming through the window and blinds. why all the closeup and medium shots? i just wanted to yell out show us some long shots and more XLS and some beautiful Mise en scene.
get a new cast. increase the budget. and get a better cinematographer /directors.
Ye, but that is realistic in LA culture, and this movie succeeded in looking and sounding like an attack on modern Los Angeles.
I've always considered the acting to by one of the films weaknesses, aside from Jarrod and Elaine really hitting their stride in the second half, acting wise.
But, as someone pointed out, with this script and dialogue it couldn't have been easy to inject much emotion into the scenes, and the two characters that survive pulled it off. I was really rooting for them towards the end. Balfour turned himself more and more into leading man material as the movie progressed.
The script for "Skyline" may seem bad at first look, but you have to look at it under a different POV. It needs to be viewed using the zombie movie format. A zombie outbreak happens have with no possible way to get out of the situation, people do what they can to survive and one by one get killed out. That's what "Skyline" is just exchange zombies with aliens. If anything this be the format for all alien invasion movies.
shareI personally don't think it's any more like a zombie movie than any movie with people trapped in a small area for survival, from old westerns to modern thrillers. But even going for that, Zombie movies don't by default require dull characters and mediocre script, and people to react foolishly occasionally. Zombie movies are no different than any other movie when written well, requiring common sense and interesting characters to engage their audience.

ive read the reviews. and the only thing i can say after watching the film is why do we have to wait till 2012 for the sequel to get here. this is one of the best cross-bred sci-fi films ive seen in a long time. its got my mind working in over time. i have to very much agree with furthea. i want the next chapter as well.
shareI completely again. The first time I watched it, I kept thinking this would make a great young adult sci-fi novel. For me the real point to the story was the two main characters and how they developed into a family in three days. I mean, there was quite a bit of character development on the male lead's side. The movie wasn't perfect, no movie is. But the story was great and because they didn't lay it all out for us, there is a ton of possibilities of where this story could go. When the baby is born, will it have superhuman abilities because the mom had been exposed to that blue light? Is the mom going to change the way the dad was? Will the father ever be able to have a human body again or is he stuck that way? Heck, will they even make it out of the city alive? I for one, would like to find out. Oh and we don't even know if his friend is dead. It's pretty safe to assume that his brain was cut out, but we never saw it happen and he could very easily have found a way to survive in there. I loved the movie and was very surprised at the hate it was receiving online. I even wondered if maybe they had watched a different movie. I've seen some really bad movies and this movie isn't one of them. It deserves more credit.

shareI thought the movie was pretty good and after it ended I was thinking: "I hope they make a sequel". I really want to know what happens to this alien/monster with a human conscience. I thought everyone in the movie did a great job. My vote for the sequel!!!
