Is it just me or does it annoy you when sequels don't follow through with the ending of the previous movie?

It seems like they are trying to treat this film as a stand alone instead of a direct sequel.

I wonder if his drone character will make an appearance is in this film.

I wondered the same thing,that if he'd be making an appearance in the second film.It wouldn't be a stretch being that so far the sequels summary says that a father goes in to fight for his son against the aliens...It wouldn't be a stretch to find that the father gains help from "Eric",whose an alien though maintained as much of himself along with his humanity...

His character is in the movie.
