I think it was solid throughout. The story built as it went, and it never dragged. If you want lots of monsters fighting one another it's not for you, but if you want an interesting story with engaging characters and interesting plot twists, you might like it.
People are mad that it wasn't nonstop monster battles. That would get repetitive and boring very quickly. This had a compelling human story focused around how the Titans appearance affected people . I thought it was great
I think Kurt Russell was glad he escaped that easy from this show. Passing the torch to his son was somehow clever. The younger Lee Shaw's story needs to be continued. Most of the other characters are annoying.
How can the backflash scenes be finished? First we had a backflash scene were Keiko Miura DIED (okay, not really), then she was out there for the next expedition... There is no chronological order in the backflashes...
Because that story has been told. In the chronology, Billy has died and Lee Shaw has aged (possibly alive in the 'between worlds', left ambigious probably based on if Kurt Russell wants to do more) and Keiko is now in our time.
We've seen his entire life, or at least the pertinent parts. He met Keiko and Randa, they founded Monarch, and he went on the expedition to the monster world. He came back, and 20 years had passed. He was put into the retirement home, where he sat around doped up and aged until the younger Randas showed up. That's it. That was his life. Unless you want some spin-off sitcom depicting the quirky antics he had as the "young guy in the old folk's home," you've seen it all.
Around 30 years in the retirement home. Monarch might ask from time to time for his advice? He is the only one left from the founding team... And the most interesting character in the show.
Is he the only one? Bill Randa is missing, presumed dead. We all thought Keiko was dead, so perhaps John ended up in the monster's realm, too? I'd be down for a show where John Goodman and Kurt Russell meet up in the monster world and battle kaiju as they try to make their way home. Maybe if they take long enough, Keiko will again be age-appropriate for Bill when they reunite.
Kurt Russell was my main reason to watch the show so I'm really disappointed that he's gone. But it was an entertaining first season so I'll tune in if there is a second season.
