alot of these awards are given by the companies who play the game before they are released (kinda lame i know) but its not like they are based upon "most selling FPS game of the year" or "sold the most preorders". these awards mean nothing to me or most people. just another way to *earn* more sales.
are reviewers, magazines, and gaming sites paid off? who knows but i'd give it a 99.9% YES. (ever wonder why all of the CoD games get so much praise? id say a game is mind blowing if i was getting a paid vacation, a tug-job and a check too LOL)
as for making games with multiple choices, im with you on that to a degree. its very cool to play a game a certain way and get different endings and the like, but these days, games are more and more like films. even though we 'play' them, they are still telling a story. and with a game like this, the story is the most important part. Infinite is a good game, tight controls, beautiful graphics, awesome sound, but all of that play second fiddle to the story. there is nothing in this game that BioShock 1 didn't already do what, 5 or 6 years ago? and even though the game looks great, i don't see how this wouldnt have looked much different had it been released in 2006. (look at the opening of both games. the ocean water by the light house looks FAR better on BioShock 1 than it does in Infinite)
its all about the narrative story and the pay off. kind of like an M.Night film. 'Unbreakable' is a fair movie, but that ending makes sweet of the sour.
E3 preview awards and being the most anticipated game of 2013, it was a long time coming and had a lot of hype. Its an amazing game that certainly lived up to the hype. The game was magnificent, from start to finish.
