Do you have to play bioshock 1 or 2 before this

I really want to play this game but I was wondering if you have to play the first two bioshock games to know what is going on in this game.

reply

you would have to at least play the first one, it sort of ties into it.

reply

K I will play the first one then thank you!

reply

I don't think you have too, it does make a bit more sense if you did but it's not required that you do.
That said, you really should play one and two just because they're incredible games.

reply

Aside from the fact that they are incredible games, they are essential in knowing the mythology and identity of what a Bioshock game constitutes. At least playing the first game will allow a sense of knowing what a Bioshock game is about, and what he can expect from Bioshock Infinite. So in my mind, playing the first one is required, aside from the fact that it is part of the story in all relevent respects.

I can't agree more with this man/woman! Also you are a Max Payne fan!

reply

Man here :P and yes, actually a huge fan of Max Payne, and I consider it one of my favourite video game series.

reply

It's not essential, but it may help to play the original before Infinite because they loosely tie together at times. Although if you are tight for money, don't bother buying the original game first- my PS3 copy of Bioshock: Infinite came with a copy of the original Bioshock, so you get two games for the price of one. So unless you are a stickler for each game having it's own individual box and whatnot, it's more economic to just buy Infinite.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

reply

I don't think you have to, but you definitely should play them anyway, because they are awesome.

Also, play System Shock 2, which you can purchase from GOG.com

Bioshock was the 'spiritual-successor' to System Shock 2.

I would say no but I would play the first one anyway for sentimental value.

reply

Only if you want to see two good games and then realize just how awful this one is.

reply

No and this is a far superior game to both of them.

I beat this game and hadn't played the first and I wasn't lost at all as it's a different story with different characters. However, my version of BS:I came with the DLC's, I beat them, and was lost beyond words. In order to understand the DLC's endings, you need to play the original BS. Bioshock Infinite didn't impress me at first, then I let the entirety of the story stew, not two days later I started anew on a harder difficulty and now claim it as within my top 5 favorite games.
