I'm wondering the same myself, particularly this being the last season.

They spend 7 seasons building up this detailed world and then scrap it all in favour of a completely new one.

What about all the storylines dealing with Mordeccai's relationships with Margaret and CJ? Are they going to be treated like an afterthought, if at all, by the time the heroes return to Earth (if at all)?

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

IMO, this is not a bad thing although sadly, they hadn't focusing too much on other characters. Which kinda makes the season a little disappointing. I will only look forward to Halloween episode and anything that had to do with the plot.

Because what I seen so far especially from week 2 of season 8 is just actually the show in space.
