Everybody's entitled to an opinion... But

Having just seen the trailer, and finding it somewhat intriguing, I came here to see if others have yet seen the film, and their take on it. Yeah, to me, it seems like it clearly draws inspiration from films like The Thing and Alien. It may be a complete rip off... Or could be a mildly original film... Either way, it doesn't make it a good or bad film. What annoys me is reading the ONE review of the film. A 1/10 star rating from a person who blatantly states he hasn't even seen the film, nor has any intention of doing so... Isn't that what these message boards are for. Reviews are to review the film, not to state whether or not we have any interest in seeing it. On the other side, 155 people have rated it 7.7 on average... How many of them have actually seen the film? Are people rating a film based on the trailer alone? Seriously? Doesn't that in and of itself defeat the purpose of the rating system? Obviously, we won't have any definitive idea of how people felt about this movie until its release, but what exactly is the purpose of rating a movie you haven't seen? Your rating or reviews should be based on your opinion of the film itself, not the trailer, or the plot, or the cast. Now, I can already dismiss Maddog-50's bulls**t review, aside the fact of admitting he hadn't seen it, but for giving every film, with the exception of Slither, a 1 star rating. The fact that he rated movies Battleship and The Day the Earth Stood Still the same as Inception, Skyfall and The Avengers just shows that he has a lack of taste... But if you aren't going to bother watching a film, don't rate or review it. Go blast it on the message boards like everyone else.

Yes.

Seriously though, I agree. It's disgusting how often you see people voting based on preconceptions and bias (we'll just leave Twilight out of this... those were the few times it was OK to automatically give something a 1 without seeing it ;) )

While I haven't seen Twillight and don't plan on doing so I think it wouldn't be OK to rate Twillight without seeing it either. It wouldn't be any different than rating this or any other movie without seeing it.

Some people may be basing their review without having seen it [like Maddog-50 who, by the way, only 3 out of 112 people found his review useful], but others may have seen it at film festivals or work in the industry.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm dying to.

Battleship was a good movie, you just didn't get it. You are entitled to your opinion, but it is wrong.

I can't agree more with the OP. Internet discussion boards are showing us just how uneducated, irrational, and egomaniacal are far too many members of the human race. Sad.

Well he was right without even seeing the movie...he rated the movie correct and saved himself 90 minutes...he must be a psychic that knows his stuff! But I do agree with him after wasting 90 minutes on this turd movie, the rating is correct...1/10.
