Citizen Mars, Episode Five: the future is closer than you think

Yeah, no.
I'm all for exploring Mars and beyond, and I wish we as a race would be more interested in exploring what's out there instead of being endlessly fascinated with the latest thing the Kardashians are doing for attention.
But when it comes to establishing a permanent colony, we should shoot for the moon first. First off, it's three days out, compared to the year it would take a manned mission to Mars. If anything disastrous happened and the colony needed help, the cavalry can get there quickly to assist, bring supplies, or evacuate.
Second, with Mars there are windows of opportunity to stage a journey, and trying to reach Mars outside those windows of opportunity ranges from impossible to difficult because of orbital mechanics and fuel considerations. Help would be painfully slow getting there, especially if a disaster happened at an inconvenient time.
With the moon, you can shuttle supplies up, bring more materials, build larger and better habitats, and the colonists are in less danger. It would be good training for an eventual Mars colony, allowing us to learn from our mistakes and fine tune our approach to colonies, without the added risk of jumping straight to Mars.
Basically, the moon would be training wheels for any future Mars colony.
I agree with everything that you have said, I mean this mission to mars is like 5/6 years away, So they can do all the testing and build things on there within the next few years def......I also heard by the time they will send people up to Mars that they will of made something to make them get to Mars in half the time which sounds promising
I also believe in aliens if people think that we are the only people in the whole galaxy/universe they are as thick as two short planks!
Where you from?
