First time seeing this in a couple years

This is a beautiful movie with some good acting. The music is great and the main characters are good.

But the message is a little short sighted.
It's has a pro-greenie anti-logging anti-profit message that is self defeating. Yes, the guys hiring Defoe's character are ruthless. But also, the samples from an endangered species with cloning technology could lead to a revitalization of the population. So that was lame. Also, the boozy mean logger or the peaceful green activist tropes are lazy.

I think the message is that even if the biotech firm were to clone it, that the tiger would not be put back in the wild to revitalize the population. It would instead be cloned, and farmed on a mass scale to produce more of the paralyzing "toxin" they were after. That's why Defoe's character killed it, and cremated it; He didn't want it's line to suffer like that.
