Dafoe and Tasmania make Hunter must see

The Hunter has its share of flaws (I'm not getting into details here - there'll be negative reviews to help with that) but it's unique, compelling cinema. The story is original and intriguing; Dafoe's performance is excellent - exactly what was needed - and the other performances are good or at least not problematic; the landscape is beautiful; the suspense and final showdown(s) is gripping - it all amounts to perfect escapism, with a little food for thought as a bonus, which really should be seen on the big screen. Though many will have a few gripes after the credits roll, I think most will thoroughly enjoy the escape.

was there something after the credit rolls? what was it? We left during the credits....

No, I just meant that when you have a chance to reflect - when the film is over - a few of the film's deficiencies may come to mind.

Actually this one of those movies that have an extra scene after the credits, I never liked the idea or understood the reason as to why. A lot of people always miss out on the scenes after the credits. I always try to leave the cinema as soon as possible.

Watch The Hunter, roll past the credits and you will see one last scene with dafoe in the hotel near an airpot.

I agree, what a great film, I never expected it to be this good, underrated , should have had a bigger distribution I saw it by luck because my girlfriend is a Willem Dafoe fan, I had never heard of it, not even a trailer. I think the studio dropped the ball on this one.

I'd agree with all of these comments, this was an excellent film. The scenery was spectacular. I spent a few weeks in Tasmania last year, fishing mainly, but clearly there's a need to go back and see all the bits I missed. As for Willlem Dafoe - he's made some great movies (Mississippi Burning, Triumph of the Spirit, Shadow of the Vampire) and some shonky ones (those terrible Boondock Saints movies), but it seems like this role fitted him perfectly. There's no doubt his performance helped make this film so good.
