Why does Willem pick lousy parts?

I think he's a great actor, but it's too bad he always chooses parts with bad script.

He still has potential. One of these days Willem.

It's no "The Grey", but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

reply

This film has nothing in common with The Grey except for it being set outdoors.

Just came back from seeing this film tonight. I cried at the end. What a beautiful story. Willem did a wonderful job, and the supporting cast was excellent. Great screenplay. It was refreshing to see such good storytelling. It's far and few between these days.

I think I see what you did there...at least, for your sake, I'm fairly sure that I see what you did there.

You think The Grey was well written? Entertainment factor aside, The Grey is great example what not to do in similar situation (if you want to live). But maybe you like brainless action movies, who knows.

This movie was great. It might be rated a 6.7 on these boards, but I don't put much stock on IMDB's ratings anymore. This was a great role for him.

reply

I think anything over a 6 on IMDB is worth a watch.

reply

lousy? well you might think so, but I think Willem thinks it's a wonderful part.
he is an actor who can chose the movies he wants to star in. every now and then you will make a hollywood payday movie, so he can secure his bills, and then spend time making movies which he wants to make. what interests him.

The hell are you on about? This was a fantastic role, and one of my favorite films of the last few years (even if the premise for the company wanting the tiger was a little...well..questionable - they heard it has a toxin? As if there aren't a million toxins out there that do that? The value would be far more in that they'd have a nearly extinct creature on their hands, and the cloning project could make them a lot of money if osmeone wanted to buy it from them). Killing it seems really dumb.

That aside, fantastic actors, scenery, dialogue, interactions, and the ending gave me goosebumps. This was far from a lousy part!

You're kidding right? He positively shone in this role. AND it was an AUSSIE film to boot.

I think we can expect to see a lot more great stuff coming from Australia and Dafoe.

What the heck was wrong with this movie.

This was a great non Hollywood flick with a great Hollywood actor. This fil can't be compared to main stream movies so 6.7 grade is actually excellent grade!

No doubt Defoe did his job, and a good job and all others did god to. It's not Dancing with Wolves, but hey it's not intended to be!!!

It's actually nothing wrong with this role, and my god he had roles that make me wonder how he managed to stay afloat after them! This is not one of them ...

this is for sure a crap movie, considering IMDB standards 6.7 is far too high for this stinker, it lured me for a non endin trip to boredom.
oh and please, stop the "go watch spider/transformers movie posts" they just show stupidity

Its neither great or bad its somewhere inbetween those two, cause the script is lame and full of plot holes but still it aint a bad movie, its totally watchable and its some really good acting aswell, but alot of things doesnt make any sense and the logic is like a leaf blown away with the wind, but it sure is some nice scenery and good acting. I wouldnt give this movie more than a 6 in rating cause of all the failings in the details and in the plot.

~If the realistic details fails, the movie fails~
