Was Tommy in love with Felix?

Because there was that scene where Tommy was alone and looking longingly at Ned and Felix dancing.

And then Tommy broke down when he heard the news about Felix's death. He never really did that before except at the funeral.

But then he was really good friends with Ned. Wouldn't there be even a little bit of awkwardness?

I don't know. I wasn't sure. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Tommy had a crush on Ned.

Really? Can you please elaborate?

I don't know if you read the play, but it seemed that Tommy had a small crush on Ned. There is a line that says "As Felix reenters from the kitchen, Tommy drops his flirtation tone." Tommy wanted to be alone with Ned, but Felix enters the room and he left.(They never showed this in the movie)

Tommy was crying when Felix dies because he was sad, the situation was sad. Tommy seemed to have a small crush on Ned since the first meeting at his house with Dr Emma explaining the situation. Also he was looking at Ned while dancing with Felix. And then talking to Ned saying "What kind of *beep* up love scene is this?". Tommy didn't really know Felix as much as he knew Ned. I think he also respected Ned more than anything.

Great, thanks!

I would also guess that Tommy was passive, so it would make more sense for him to be attracted to Ned than Felix (although why someone wouldn't be attracted to Matt Bomer is beyond me :p).

Good question. I wondered if Tommy was in love with Ned, but perhaps you are correct. I need to watch again and keep eyes open for clues on that.

The real Tommy (Rodger McFarlane) and the real Ned (Larry Kramer) were once romantically involved, and afterward remained friends for the rest of McFarlane's life: "In his world, he was the caretaker. He doted on his brother David, who died of AIDS, and on the literary agent Jed Mattes, as he died of cancer, and on his old flame Larry Kramer, during a liver transplant. 'Rodger stage-managed everything,' Kramer says. 'He was in his element there.'" From http://nymag.com/news/intelligencer/56946/
