When the movie was first planned in the 80's with Barbara Striesand producing/staring they were planning to cut so much of the content for theatres that it practically would've been a different story.
I agree with you and I'm aware of the restrictions of a tv movie. I just wish that restriction wasn't there.
I mean a movie is a movie. It's a shame movies such as this one are so high in quality and production value. It's unfair that they are completely ignored only because they have a different medium.
I think it's time The Academy adds a new category for TV movies. Jmo.

Good point...except that TV movies RARELY are of Oscar-quality. Lifetime films come to mind as to why it will never happen.
And also why the Razzies only consider movies released in theatres (I mean Liz and Dick would've swept it lol).
Thanks to this movie. It's my favorite part of the song, and it makes me a bit misty-eyed at times because I think of the film.
As I mentioned on the Magic Mike XXL board, this song has become a karaoke favorite of mine! I think my favorite part is towards the end when the tempo picks up and you hear the guitar riff (to me it symbolizes how things would get better).
BTW ase3327 I was hoping you'd comment on my post on here regarding Matt Bomer in Magic Mike XXL and how amazing he looks once again (better then ever IMO)!

Things are changing tho. HBO has been producing some really good movies over last few years. Emmys and Golden Globe lumps them with miniseries but really they are movies.
