So if some people beat their head against the wall over and over

then whine that the public should pay for their medical care - my hard earned tax dollars should pay for their medical care? When all they have to do it not bang their head against the wall?!

Uh, why can't they just stop banging their head against the wall?

That's what I'd do.

If you're implying homosexual intercourse is the same as banging your head against the wall, then that's exactly what you should do. Right now. Bang as hard as you can.

How is it different from the government using tax dollars for any other health service or research? Are you implying the money shouldn't go towards aids treatment/research because it's a "gays" problem? Or are you against govt's involvement in healthcare?

reply

No where in the movie did they demand the government pay for their health care. They were demanding this new emerging disease be recognized by the country as an epidemic and the disease be given the same rights, funding and research as other potential epidemics.

Also, while there was speculation how the disease was spread, they really had no idea so your idea for people to stop banging their head against the wall makes No sense. They wanted the funding and recognition from government so they could figure out what it actually was that was causing the disease and after the funding and research came, it was discovered there are many ways to get infected besides 'banging their heads against the wall' and it wasn't only some people who could be infected but every person.

That's what I'd do.

Spoken from the perspective of someone privileged not to have to make the choice.

I'd wager good money that if it came to a pass where your "tax dollars" needed to be spent on something that personally affected you, your tune would be a very different dog-whistle.

But you hugely missed the point. They weren't asking for someone to pay for their medical care; they were asking for someone to do even the basic research so there was effective medical care to be had. It's not subjective point of view, but very very real, that no-one cared because it was "only" gays and druggies (at first!) who were affected.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

what the *beep* are you even talking about? nowhere in the film was that implied. wow.

Pretty dangerous road to go down isn't it? Where would you draw the line? Would you say that people who smoke shouldn't be treated for smoking related illnesses? People who take part in extreme sports shouldn't be treated for injuries sustained? And you know something else? What makes you think that people with AIDS haven't also contributed their own hard-earned tax dollars? Open your eyes and realise that the world doesn't revolve around what you approve or disapprove of.
