Was jim parsons good in this?

I like him in TBBT and was curious to know if he did well in a dramatic role

I love Jim Parsons but his mannerisms and speech is too distinct imo for him to disappear into a role. He was so much like Sheldon Cooper who is very much like Jim himself. His speech was good tho. His puppy eyes made me sad. Overall I wasn't impressed.

Btw he got his own star on the Hollywood hall of fame recently. Happy for him.

Yes, he's very good in this and he even offers someone a warm beverage.

reply

Yes.

reply

No. He wasn't good. He was great. Brought a tear (not of laughter like in TBBT) to my eye.

Personally, I had a hard time not seeing Sheldon Cooper when I looked at Jim Parsons playing Tommy Boatwright. I grant that Parsons was perfectly fine in the role. BTW, Parsons won the Emmy that year for "The Big Bang Theory" but lost for "The Normal Heart."

reply

Absolutely.

He makes an impact with a moving eulogy speech, but in part that's because that speech is written as a highlight "moment", though he delivers it well. Big speeches are relatively easy to make an impact with.

I was personally more impressed with his performance in all the quieter moments, where the strength of his character shone through. It was a strong cast, and he certainly held up his end. (  )

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Yes, I thought he was excellent. An understated but effective performance. I think he was the quiet and "normal" heart of the piece.
