The ending--big SPOILERS!

So, this has probably already been discussed quite a bit. If so, I apologize. But in the end scenes, between Wade and Halliday....Halliday interacts and converses with Wade. So, he can't just be a "recorded hologram", so to speak. A real person has to be behind that avatar....thinking and responding. So....is it Halliday (not dead afterall) in some remote location, living now only via his avatar? Or....could it be a proxy (Morrow?), posing as Halliday via his avatar? I guess my point is...SOMEONE alive and hooked-up to a VR device....is acting as Halliday's avatar. Even Wade alluded to it: "You're not really dead, are you?" And Halliday didn't give him an answer.

Is it supposed to be obvious he's not dead? Or deliberately ambiguous?

Could simply be an AI/software...

I think he's an AI - it doesn't have to be an advanced AI, just enough to answer the most commonly-asked questions.

I mean, I thought that robotic thing in the Archives was an AI, not Simon Pegg's character's avatar.

That's a good theory. Though I found it telling, and a bit intriguing, the way he reacted to Wade's question: "You're not really dead, are you?" That, too, could have been a programmed AI response....but I think they deliberately left it vague. (Plus, I'm sure the inevitable sequel will expound on this)

I think Halliday is dead but somehow found a way to connect himself to the Oasis before his death, thus he made the video before his death because it was all his plan.
