Wasn't expecting to like this movie
At first I was annoyed by the overdone costumes, Lily Collins' eyebrows, and how goofy the film looked in commercials. But upon watching it, it actually wasn't too bad for a fantasy film, and very kid-friendly. The dwarves were awesome as bandits. It's especially pleasing to see them use genuine dwarf actors for the roles, including at least one or two actors I recognized from previous stuff they've worked in. The one who played Will Grimm I have seen in several works involving dwarf characters.
Turns out despite the eyebrows, Lily Collins is actually very charming and did a lovely job as Snow White. She had all the best costumes in the movie. Seems most of the really over-the-top costumes were being worn by the evil Queen anyway. Plus there were some funny parts in the movie. I almost didn't even notice the change in having the prince get cursed instead of Snow White, the story was so much fun to follow.
One scene I really could have done without was the "beauty treatment" scene with the Queen (which was really gross), so I usually fast-forward during that part.
It was interesting how they interpreted the way the Queen used her magic mirror, or just magic in general, though they didn't really explain how it worked, or why she had to go into a pocket dimension to talk to her own reflection.
The only thing that truly mars this movie is the fact that Armie Hammer played the prince, and after hearing about his controversy (which came about years after this film was made) I can't look at him the same way again.
It was nice seeing Sean Bean in this, even if he only had two scenes as Snow White's dad. Every fan of LOTR knows him as Boromir, so it's difficult not to notice him.
