Tarsem favors wildly stylized costumes, scenery/sets and a fantastical scope to his films. If you haven't seen "The Fall" yet, you will love the look- bold, graphic, vibrant, elegant. In the case of that film though, the crew shot all over the world (28 countries!) in real locations that are probably some of the most stunning places on our planet. "Mirror Mirror" used more generic green screen and digitally painted environments, but the emphasis was more on the outrageous costumes.
Unfortunately I feel like he's not so great at honing a script to where it feels fully developed, so the plot in his films can stumble around a bit, and sometimes he doesn't seem to properly guide actors who have proven themselves better (and less stage-y, rigid) in other projects... I think he has a much stronger visual eye than story/performance sense. I like his sense of humor/whimsy though, it's endearing. Loved the Bollywood song at the end, that was fun.
