The ending gave me blueballs (Spoiler)

Just saw this on a plane for the first time.....why the heck did the two leads not kiss at the end? Was this just a creative choice / a tease for a sequel?

reply

because their relationship was never suppose to be romantic...the director Guillermo del Toro wanted to portray a story about 2 characters that is not romantic, to show that a man and a woman can just be friends and that they don't necessarily have to become a romantic couple. The relationship between the 2 leads Raleigh and Mako was always suppose to be a mainly platonic one about friendship and trust...and I love their relationship because of that, because it's different to the typical cookie-cutter romance story between a man and a woman.

I for one was glad del Toro decided not to go that cliche route and make them lovers. It was refreshing, and at least for me, seemed more realistic than the two of them seemingly falling in love overnight.

I'd say that's true...except the scene where she's checking him out...

He's an attractive man. But other than that one moment, it's not about a romance for them.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

nah I think she was just looking at the scars on his body...alot of people thought she was "checking him out" in a romantic way, but it was clear to me she was just looking at his scars and suddenly she started to see him with more admiration for his courage and bravery.
