Yep..He can be a little mumbly. Loved the movie AND his performance, but he can be a little hard to understand. Same mushy pseudo southern/hillbilly as in Lawless. I've said it before that English actors have a hard time pulling off a convincing rural/hick/southern accent. His Russian in Child 44 was ok..the New York accent in The Drop was good..The few lines he had in Mad Max were somewhat intelligible..The cockney in Legend was realistically hard to understand. Somehow in The Revenant,(and Lawless, now that I think of it)his speech reminds me of Heath Ledgers' vocalization in Brokeback Mountain. And there you have MY HIGHLY REGARDED F@$KING OPINION. You're welcome.

HOLY BEANS! I just learned that the actor that played Gabby Johnson was the same that played Galt (the ***hole deputy) in First Blood.

His accent reminded me of what I heard in Maryland when I lived there in the 1950s.
