I think people would have enjoyed this movie a lot more if....

They went in without the massive hype and expectations. I honestly loved the survival story, the direction, acting and how it delved into loneliness and how Glass had nothing to live for other than his revenge.

Yet it wasn't a movie about his revenge per say, to me it was more about doing the last thing he could for his dead family, and it was his only link to them. It's a pretty somber affair truth be told and not a thriller like "Taken" where its an entertaining revenge flick.

But with the oscars thrown at The Revenant i think the negative reviews were expecting a different film.

Its not a film that everyone will like. The whole movie has a bleak tone and atmosphere, which a lot of people dont like. It wasnt a pure action film, so if one was watching it just for that, they would be disappointed. It wasnt a feel-good survival movie either. People see the Oscars, but don't realize that Oscars do not equal an all around enjoyable movie that anyone can watch.

Thats true, the bleakness of the film itself will probably be too much for some.
