So Glad I Live In Florida Instead Of Alberta Canada

Is it ever sunny in the long Wintertime in Canada?? Cold, grim depressing Canada with endless gray overcast skies,dead trees everywhere, I couldn't take it--On the other hand, in the movie RV(2007), with Robin Williams, shows Alberta in the summer and its quite beautiful(see Last Of The Dogmen(1994) also)--I think Canada should sue the producers of this film for showing Alberta to be the most depressing and bleak place on the planet--which wasn't helped by the overly long and tediousness of the film, the director could have cut a whole hour off this excessively bleak movie--I'd rather see Death Hunt(1981) again, or even Man In The Wilderness(1971)

I concur...concerning the "overly long" and "bleakness" of this movie. I kept waiting to see Leo's Oscar-worthy performance and it never came. Just wanted it to END.
Never seen RV but have an aunt that traveled up to Canada and said it was indeed beautiful. She also said it was a lot cleaner than the 'ol USA.
I imagine in the time frame of the movie the world in general was "bleaker" than modern day, tho.

It's popular in Hollywood today to use a "grey scale" effect, especially in darker mood films.

I got a kick out of the title of your thread, no Canada is not always like that,
I would prefer Canada to Florida in a heartbeat.

Welcome to the wonderful world of watching movies! I'm sure you'll find lots of enjoyment, and no doubt you'll get the hang of it over time, so don't feel bad about being so lousy at it at first.

For example, movies do this thing called 'editing', wherein they only select certain pieces of film in order to form a cohesive whole that reflects the vision the filmmakers are going for. What that means is in The Revenant you only see certain skies, certain weather conditions, indeed only certain geography, selected to convey a specific atmosphere of mood and theme.

Btw, The Revenant is not set in Alberta, Canada (a place of much blue sky and sunshine, even in the coldest depths of freezing winter), so perhaps your blame is misplaced.

of course, we spend several weeks every Fall up in Vermont and Banner Elk North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a 70 mile must see from north of Asheville up past Grandfather Mountain near Boone, a beautiful drive with endless hills and beautiful Fall color in mid-October--Vermont is awesome too as are the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and Cadillac Mountain in Maine--Someday we'd like to take that train ride from Calgary to Vancouver, in the summer time of course

I thought the scenery in the movie was beautiful. It was made depressing by the people in the movie and scary because of the grizzly. Even though I'm from the south, I like cold weather and snow. I just wouldn't want to live outside sleeping on the ground like they were doing. As for the OP talking about Florida, I've been there and those gators and crocodiles kill more people than bears do. Sometimes Florida is way too hot and mosquito-y.

In Banner Elk North Carolina a week ago, it was 35 degrees and breezy, and I freaking froze my azz just filling up the gas tank, like living in a refrigerator--I noticed Calgary Alberta last January, it got down to 9 degrees below zero--no thanks

I'm glad I was born in the last half of the 20th Century and not 200 years ago. I'd have never made a pioneer woman. I'd have stayed in Philadelphia and waved goodbye to the wagon trains when they drove out.



Calgary Alberta: Next 7 days low temperatures will be averaging a bone-chilling 14 Degrees Below Zero!

Florida next 7 days low temperatures will average 65 to 70 degrees

It's not even that bad. The last 2 winters were fairly warm and they actually had to shoot some of this movie in Montana because there wasn't any snow in Alberta.

Snow is wonderful and beautiful. Unless you have to travel in it. But the cold, the white, the crispness is better than a lot of humidity and heat (I live elsewhere in heat & humidity).

Odd comment. I've been to Florida twice and and both times it involved running from air-conditioned car/building to air-conditioned building. Obviously you know the consequences of being outiside for more than 15 minutes in Miami humidity...brutal swamp ass and ever-present pit stains. I'd actually prefer a few months of snow to be honest. I guess people have a weird way of getting used to their own little world.

Calgary Alberta temp right now at 1 PM local time: 1 Degree--Wind chill temperature right now is 17 degrees below zero--Here in Florida, 80 degrees and beautiful, will be in the 60's and 70's in a few days

Lol. Okay, you got me there. I don't think any sane person would want to move to Canada, despite who the president-elect may be. But nine months a year of living in a tropical/swamp environment would drive me and a lot of other people insane, that's all I'm saying.
