Tom Hardy's voice
Overall, I enjoyed this movie. It would have been much better if we could have understood what Tom Hardy was saying most of the time though.

shareHe studied Tom Berengers character from Platoon for this role. Berengers voice was muttled. He was also a ruthless sombitch too! Helps if you turn the closed captioning on.
sharealmost the same voice that he uses in Peaky Blinders, very hard to understand with or without the English Accent.
shareThe jeweler, right? That's why I recognized his voice!
shareI am watching the film now and I can understand him perfectly fine

He sounded like Buffalo Bill with the Bane mask on.
shareLOL!!!! Perfect description.
I have kids so I can only watch movies when they're asleep. I pretty much always leave the closed captions on. Seriously, Tom Hardy, talk normally! Have you seen "Lawless?" He f-en mumbles and grunts through that, too.
Same! Kids and subtitles. A lot of times I find myself using subtitles because the "background" music or sound effects are so loud, yet the characters are inaudible. Frustrating to have to keep turning the volume up and down the entire time I watch a movie anymore!

LOL!
shareI can't think of a Tom Hardy movie where he was intelligible.
shareHow about The Revenant?
shareHe is very intelligible in lots of films:
Rock n Rolla
Inception
Bronson
Legend
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
But where is sufferers is with American accents, particularly southern. It's not that they are bad (Some would disagree) but he has this real Deputy Dog thing going on that he needs to move away from.
Band of Brothers
Wuthering Heights
Locke
Perfectly understandable in those too.
Are you from the South? I do disagree. I think he does a fine job, and it's very easy to 'hear' forced southern. Forced southern grates on my nerves.
Watching everything with CC on due to a slight hearing impairment is second nature. It allows me to 'watch' without missing anything when others interrupt. Nothing is worse than someone constantly talking during a good movie.

Warrior, Inception, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Drop....he speaks clearly in all of those.
Actually he's not hard to understand in Lawless either.
The only movies where he's hard to follow sometimes are The Dark Knight Rises, Child 44 (heavy Russian accent), and The Revenant, and sometimes in Legend because of the thick English accent, especially as Reggie.

In the drop he mumbles a lot too. Luckily his character barely speaks..
Maybe it's his thing to mumble. Thank god for closed captioning
Lol! I am glad I read this thread because I just watched it last night on Netflix and I am thinking 'my hearing is getting SO bad!' so I did just that, turned on the CC about halfway through because I had NO idea wtf Fitzgerald was talking about in that southern 'accent' of his. Totally sounded like Barnes too and I see that was Hardy's intention. It just seems to be a trend now that in 'artier' type films where the director seems to be much more concerned about authenticity or something as opposed to actor's speaking the Queen's English when in front of a camera so the viewer has some inkling as to wtf is going on. Glad I didn't see this in the theater because his mumbling was getting really frustrating.
Life is always intense for a repo man.
I disagree 100%. His voice was my favorite thing about this film. It was excellent.
shareYou must have superhuman abilities.
shareI do have very good ears. I also am from the south. The way he talked in this is similar to how I sound in my own head sometimes when I'm frustrated. My wife can't understand me sometimes
shareYou could hear him fairly well in Warrior part from when he's drunk
shareFirst thing. I'm not all that good with computers. How do I quote some or all of another's post in this box and then comment on it? Anyway - like somebody else said.....use the closed caption feature to hear Hardy - I use it more & more now that I'm in my 60's.
I'm really impressed with Hardy. He added some much needed emotion to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
And my favorite movie in the last 2 or 3 years was "THE DROP" (RIP James Gandolfini). Contrast the performance of Hardy in that one & in The Revanent. Yep, Hollywood has another A-list actor.
Another movie for CC was "Sexy Beast" which I liked a lot. Rare Ben Kingsly role as psychopath & I like Ray Winstone a lot. Need CC for Layer Cake too. These last two are British Gangster flicks that are always hard to understand IMHO.
I'd bet if u watched "Sexy Beast".....the main character who was Ray Winstone & his best friend....u won't know the name of one of them.......or both of them by the end of the movie. And they're names are said a bunch of times all through the movie....which is a good one.
I agree. Didn't understand what he was saying at all. Spoiled the movie for me.
shareThat's a lovely, lovely voice.
