Fargo without the quirk

1st off: Thors bro can't carry a film

2nd: the plot was there but the nemesis was trying too hard to be quirky. The glasses and the stutter? Not necessary.

3rd: The cast was primed for eccentric. But we get a mumble john, a subdued billy, and a Bluetooth Oliver. Oh and I forgot the leftover Nebraska star.

4th and final: not a bad cast or story just needed over the top violence ( to rock the small town persona) or a different director who could have squeezed a noir essence out of this forgettable lifetime movie.

Agreed. How to define quirk? It tried so hard to quirk it.
I'd think that with s bit more style in cinematography, art direction and editing, this could had been a much much better flick.

Oh.

Fargo was the film that came to my mind also. It wasn't a great film but a good enough one. Michael Stuhbarg (Derby Milton) was a bit over the top. Matt Shakman has 42 directional credits so the potential was there particularly with several big name stars (Billy Bob Thornton, John Malkovich, Oliver Platt, Bruce Dern, and Teresa Palmer).

I also thought of it as a poor man's Fargo, with some of No Country for Old Men and even Office Space (Derby Milton = Milton Waddam) thrown in for good measure.

It was a derivative movie, but watchable or perhaps even good until the ridiculously implausible happy ending (i.e. Sheriff covering for Dwayne by shooting the corpse).

Funny how it's named after some obscure small town too just like Fargo
