My only issue with this movie

Ok I love this film but the only thing I don't agree with story wise is the fact that after Charlie doesn't kiss Mary Elizabeth and everyone gets mad, i understand that they'd be upset at him but its pretty mean that they just stop talking to him for weeks and just kick him out? They were supposed to be his friends and they just left him over this one incident. If he hadnt defended Patrick at the cafeteria would they never had talked to him again? Haha just saying

I don't think Patrick 'turned on him' so much as put him on the bakc burner. He obviously had some damage control to work out with MAry Elizabeth and Sam, plus his relationship with Brad. Obviously, he didn't keep as much in contact during this time as Bob did, but I don'y believe that he outright turned his back on Charlie. Because if you notice when Charlie tries to ask him about Brad, all he says is 'Not now, Charlie. I'm sorry'. Whereas, if he was as angry with Charlie as Sam or Mary Elizabeth, he probably would've responded with '*beep* off'.

Most people who say "not now" actually mean "neither now, neither later" but cowardly use the former because it is the easier answer.

You actually raise a very good question—one I’ve asked myself, in fact. Charlie didn’t exactly use the best judgment, and I understand the initial fallout, but he’d been there for everyone at one time or another and had proven himself a very good friend. A scene that breaks my heart is when Mary Elizabeth minimizes his connection to the group. I’d like to think they would’ve welcomed him back into the fold soon thereafter, regardless of the Patrick incident, but who knows.
