Movies that make you feel empty inside

After watching this movie (which I really enjoyed), I just sat there looking at nothing for ten minutes. Now, half an hour later, I've still got a lump in my throat. This movie really got to me.

I'm a guy in the 20's and I like.. you know.. Guy movies. I love Django Unchained (and everything other Tarantino), Sin City and stuff like that.

However, I also really like movies like this. I don't cry during or after movies though, but sometimes, like now, I watch a movie that just makes me want to (hence the before mentioned lump).

I think it has something to do with me really enjoying the movie while it lasts, and then, when it's done, I'm a little sad that (in this case) Charlie is just Logan Lerman and Sam is just Emma Watson once again.
I don't know them anymore. I get back to reality. And it makes me feel kind of empty inside.

This of course means that the characters in the movie have grown on me, and I bet I'm not the only one who feels like this once in a while. So therefore I'm asking you guys to share with me some of the movies that have made you feel this way.
Amélie springs to my mind as another example.

This movie made me feel like that a little, but overall I was just hopeful after watching it. The character's and their lives and interactions are so beautiful and it really made me feel like if all humanity was as loving to each other as these friends are, the world would be a better place.

Anyway, haha, some movies that have made me feel empty inside after watching them:
My Sister's Keeper
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Thirteen

Most recent first view:
The Color Purple - 8.5/10

This movie really got to me too. I like all types of movies, but these days my favorites are Indy and Foreign films.

I loved the characters. They were all so real and believable. The line "We accept the love we think we deserve," rings so true. Perfect explanation to why some many people we care about end up with such losers. They do not think they deserve better, when everyone else believes they do.

The list of films people are giving you like Garden State, although are great films are really not remotely close to being as good as Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Although they are not teenage films, if you want to see two films that are very real and believable you should see the Brazilian films City of God and Elite Squad. But see City of God first.

Those of us who have had similar experiences as some of the characters I believe can connect better and leaves a different lasting impression.
That's why you see some people not liking this type of movies. They cannot feel the connection at all. They simply don't get it.

Anyway, the most simmilar films to this one are:

Donnie Darko,
Prozac Nation,
It's Kind of a Funny Story,
Celeste and Jessie forever,
Requiem for a Dream,
A Clockwork Orange,
Love and other drugs,
The Rules of Attraction,
Reign Over Me, (must see non-comedy but tragic Adam Sandler)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, (must see non-comedy Jim Carrey)
"World's Greatest Dad", and "One Hour Photo" (both tragic Robin Williams)
Everything Must Go, (tragic Will Farrell)
The Weather Man, (must see Nicholas Cage movie)
"Garden State" and "Elizabethtown" are very similar.
Lars and the Real Girl,
The Savages (2007),
A Love Song for Bobby Long,
Shrink,
Boys Don't Cry,
"The girl next door" similar but more of a comedy. and good.

And then most Gregg Araki (Indi) movies of course(Splendor, Mysterious Skin, The Doom Generation, Nowhere,......etc.) Araki has only made/wrote/directed about 11 movies in 25yrs but almost all good. I had him lecture once in my film studies class back in college. He went to my school too. UCSB)

These are all similar in the way they make you feel after watching them.
I purposely didn't list the ones that other people gave you already.
There are more I am sure I can think of later.
"A beautiful mind"

I know what you mean. For me it makes me sad because it reminds me of the stories and characters in my own life, and once its over, its like the end of an emotionally engaging movie, except it leaves you feeling empty for months of years rather than hours.

Another movie which randomly springs to mind that left me with a bittersweet nostalgia is Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.

the indian movie Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries) made me feel like this... A bit thanks to music given by Gustavo Santaolalla.
