Are the guests real or actors?

I honestly can't tell if it they're really good actors a la Darkplace or they don't aren't in on the joke a la Borat?

I don't know.... But I'm guessing its a bit of both.
Some are people used in tim and Erics other projects (like sunshine Brule was a shrim god and the pirate is also diamond Jim).
But some seem to not be in on it, like the boat captain and the headhunter.
Just my opinion!

Oh Jesus. They play it so straight faced I'm tempted to believe they're not in on it. I can't go more than 3 seconds without cracking up everytime I watch this show. Idk though, that might be too good to be true. Could you imagine thinking your going on a real small town daytime talk show and ending up face to face with Dr. Steve? That would make it so much better if it were true.

According to Wiki the guests are real and have no idea Dr.Streve is hamming it.

both, but mostly real. Tim & Eric have stated in interviews that the guests are real and it's unscripted. BUT, for sure Maria Bamford is a professional comedian/actress and she's the guest on the 'Health' episode (plays Syamfia Drangus & gives Brule the makeover) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Bamford . but Pastor Dan Hooper on the 'Church' episode is real (plays Dr. Dan Drangle, the guy who runs the whole show in this business) https://www.kcet.org/local-heroes/local-hero-pastor-dan-hooper-0 .
and sometimes i think they are real guests that have been 'alerted' as to what to expect, what role to play, lines to say (for instance, Ron Don Volante in his stripclub).

They have to be real people. lol No one could keep a straight face if they're in on it. I sure couldn't.
