Yes, Virginia, there is a Woodstock, NY. Albert Grossman, who managed Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, and The Band (among others) had a house there. Dylan used to retreat to Grossman's house when he wanted to escape the city, and eventually bought his own house there, where he lived with his family during the early years of his first marriage. This led to The Band getting their own house in a nearby town, the famous Big Pink, and other musicians and artists gravitating to the area. The Woodstock festival was held nearby, and called Woodstock, due to all this. There is also a Woodstock, Vt., and probably other towns with that name elsewhere, but the one in NY is a real place, and it was Dylan's presence there that caused all that followed.
