This looks disappointing
Apparently this is told now from the aspect of a child? They are starting the story mid books but we do not get Susannah and Eddie?
Loved the books but have to skip this one.

His name is Jake and he is a pivotal character! Just like the first book it is Jake, Roland, and Walter! They aren't starting in the middle of the books... This is another trip to the tower for Roland so things will be different. The director has already said that Eddie and Susannah will be in the next movie. But skip it if you must! If you made it all the way to these message boards, and read the books... Im sure you will see the movie (:
shareAnd yet there are character and scenes from the other books. They're doing the house from the drawing of three and made the door a lame futuristic portal. This looks terrible. I was willing to give it a chance but this trailer really did look like just a generic action/fantasy film. Not at all what I was expecting.
shareYou'd be wise to skip it, this hatchet job doesn't deserve your time or money.
shareFor someone who hates the adaptation so much, you sure spend a lot of time on this message board, Spider... You know what you are?
Trouble. And in our road
It's not a blind shill board, some of us happen to be fans of the books and don't like how they have done a complete hatchet job of the Dark Tower.
If you want only mindless praise you can go and start your own forum and only allow those deluding themselves that this won't be a cr*pfest.
If you were a true "fan", Spider, you would give your respect to this project until after watching the film.
If you hate the movie after you watch it then please.....preach away with your wisdom.
There is no real substance to what you say.
You have zero depth or weight to any of your arguments.
Yeah you're talking cr*p. Just because someone is a fan of the books doesn't mean they have to delude themselves into false hope for an obvious hack job of a film.
This has all the red flags of so many other poor King adaptions that are in name only hatchet jobs.
A true fan wouldn't support this at all, it doesn't help the chances of ever getting good adaptions when cr*p like this has fools like you defending it.
Got a good laugh out of you, with your piss poor arguments in defense of this trainwreck insulting my arguments though.
Spidey, it really isn't fair for you to speak for all "true" fans. I am a true fan. I have been for more than two decades... quite a long time! So is it wrong for any of us to have high hopes? And of course we're going to defend it if we see an argument we don't agree with. We don't have to agree with each other, but we can at least try to do it without so much mudslinging. Please don't mistake me, I'm pretty sure I can see muddy hands from both sides of the playing field, but surely there is a way of expressing oneself without so much... animosity? I'm not trying to preach; it's just a thought (that both sides would benefit from, in truth).
Okay, can you do me a favor? This is for me, not anyone else, mind you. We've had some very positive discourse, so in that tradition, can you state for me one of your major concerns since seeing this trailer so we can discuss it rationally? Please, let's keep in mind that the trailer was unfinished, so we already know why the quality isn't quite up to par, and I already know your feelings about Idris Elba, so give me something new. Just one thing at a time. And let's try to do this without any growling or posturing. Civilized discussion/debate, right?
Hope you're having a good day.
There's no sense arguing with a fanatic. Spider made up his mind about this film before a single frame was shot. This film could receive rave reviews, become an international success, and he'll never admit it's any good.

Listen to them—the children of the night. What music they make!
Ah, the good ol' No True Scotsman fallacy. Always glad to see that trotted out.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
People complain that too much (from novels beyond The Gunslinger) is going into the first film while also complaining that Eddie and Susannah aren't debuting in the first film.
*throws hands up*
If the introductory installment were three-and-a-half to four hours long, I could see them joining Roland, but given that the runtime is likely going to be two-and-a-half hours long...

Agreed. And you know I've discussed my reservations before and the reasons why I feel a little hesitation in the changes they've made, I'm still going to see the movie. I reserve my judgement till then. I hope the Sequel aspect works, as it makes total sense. Took me some time to understand and agree that a Sequel, another trip for Roland, makes sense.
Mixing up the story a little is okay IF it proves necessary to development of characters, setting, etc. It didn't need changing, tho. But I get it. I missed the trailer :/ Hoping I can track a version down soon!
