I didn't see the trailer before it disappeared and haven't been able to catch it in time anywhere else. But I'm wondering, how can you really tell what it's going to be yet when it wasn't even a finished, official trailer? I get why you feel the way you do, truly. I'm also conflicted on this entire project for so many reasons (Roland being black isn't one of them, tho I have doubts yet over Elba's ability to fill Roland's boots), but can you really tell all this, like Roland being a sidekick, from an unfinished trailer that was under 2 min? I'm hesitant/nervous/whatever over how this will turn out in the long run, as I want to friggin' see Mid World and all the characters be brought to life in recognizeable ways.
I was caught up over the fact this will be a sequel rather than literal translation of the book to film, but I've come to understand why they've done this and can dig it now. Messing with certain characters personas makes me a little peeved, but perhaps it'll be for the better? I'm trying to be optimistic, which is hard for a serial pessimist! I have reservations, but I'm holding out hope that they know what they're doing and have a good-enough plan. I don't need direct, literal translation, but I do want it to be more than just recognizable.
But can you really judge this as a stinker based off n unfinished trailer and production stills? I'm not knocking you either, your opinion is just as valid as mine, just .. curious?
