Both considerably more so than Javier Bardem. When he's on screen you don't look at anything or anyone else. I read the books in 2012 before any mention of Elba and obviously envisaged the character as white, but think he's a great choice and a better one than Bardem.
If at first you don't succeed, you're not Chuck Norris
SHHHHH, PERCY! If you say his name three times he appears! Or was that someone else?
Anyway, Idris Elba was an actor my husband and I started to take notice of years ago, so when we got over the initial "a black Roland?!" shock, we both found ourselves nodding and saying, "Okay... You know, I can see how that works..." We're excited about it, but unfortunately you can't expect everyone to roll over so easy. Some people are so rigid in their wants/hopes, but those are often people who wouldn't have been happy with anyone. I mean, we all make our dream casts up in our head, but even if those actors are considered, sometimes those actors have prior obligations, salary demands outside of budget, so on and so forth. I always believed if it was meant to be, it would happen. Whatever's left, we must accept, and move on. Ka and whatnot.
