Oh No, I Caved!

Argh, I told myself I wouldn't and I did! I've forgotten the face of my father!

Okay. Just watched the unfinished trailer. Once. Only once! Okay... so was it me, or did it look more like Wastelands than The Gunslinger? That's not necessarily a bad thing, per se, but surprising. I mean, let's face it, The Gunslinger, as it was, would have been a very hard movie for people to watch. Don't get me wrong, now; an hour long sequence of hearing nothing but a pushcar and occasional throat clearing from Roland and Jake would have been so entertaining, but that's what montages are for, right? (That's a joke! Don't shoot!) So I did see something that quite easily could have been the purge of Tull, but all of Jake's Mid-World visions were very prevalent and I thought that was all Wastelands material. There's also been speculation about that monster. My first thought was slow mutant, but I don't think it was humanoid enough. Hopefully the finished product will clarify that a bit for us.

I wasn't upset with what I saw, though. I think they aged up Jake a hair, but that's hardly unusual since a few years can crucially impact the actor's ability. Has a lot changed? Yes. It's a movie, and it's for newcomers as well as established fans. But it was a very short view of a long movie, so I can't wait for them to serve up more! Elba and McConaughey both look great (as if they have to try, how you boys doin?), there was some seriously cool imagery, and I got to see the gunslinger himself sling some guns!

My excitement has not been abated. If anything, I'm more eager for what we'll get next!

Yeah i'm Excited too. Roland looks awesome. Im just worried about Jake's performance.

reply

Don't worry about Jake. He won the part over Nicholas Hamilton (who gave one hell of a performance in Captain Fantastic).
He must be a very, very fine actor.

thats good then. I hope he has some sass and gives Roland a hard time like he does in the book:)

One good thing about child/teenage actors is that they are relatively unknown.

(Good to me anyhow, at least .)

Haha joannatn! Just when they were gonna release the real thing! I definitely feel for you though. As much as I appreciate your posts on IMDB, I had to skip most of this one because I turned the trailer off halfway through because it just didnt seem "made for our eyes" yet.
Glad to see that you are still as intrigued as I am about this. I think we're in for something very special and great! And I agree with you, Roland looks awesome!!!

Is it weird of me to say that I am already anticipating Eddie and Odetta?

I showed it to my husband and he's all excited now, too. Even with all the green screens, he really enjoyed what he saw.

Sawyer, I really struggled with my decision to watch it... then to watch it twice more! It's just that they haven't given us anything and I couldn't wait any longer. I think they've forgotten the face of their fathers along with marketing. :-/

But what's done is done. At least I feel good about the decision.

Give that a go; it should work. It was the only one I was able to find that still worked, and it was courtesy of the friendly posters here. Hope you enjoy it, Robby!
