Hey Everybody Tyler has an Advance Copy...

I mean, he's claiming up and down this board that he knows for a fact that it's just a CGI-filled superhero story that's designed to put butts in the seats. So I guess he must know every inch of the film story right?

I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

Before even seeing it? Well...it does save quite a bit of cognitive horsepower to make so broad an assumption instead of waiting to get acquainted with the final product.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

reply

Are you kidding me? Read what has been reported, and watch the unfinished trailer. Can't wait till it comes out and sucks in exactly the way i have claimed. You guys will still pretend it is not only a good movie, but also a faithful adaptation. Haha haha

reply

Wow dude - all I'm advocating for is to wait until the finished product is released. That's all I'm saying. I am hopeful it will be good, but I'm not making insane predictions like you are. Wait for it to be released. Full Stop.

The beauty and the sadness of it is even if he is right, he is still wrong.

reply

Dude, I just don't get why you have such a hard on for it failing? Sure, I *prefer* a more faithful adaptation, but even King is on boardfor whatever they're coming up with. Does that not mean something to you? Even the creator has given his blessing to see something new. If it fails, that sucks for all of us because most of us will be frail or dead by the time they try again to adapt it. We loose either way, as fans. So let's see what happens, eh?

I know this is a futile conversation to try to have with you, but I'm trying. I totally get your frustration, as I'm right there with you. But I don't want to see this version become a disaster! I just don't get the hate behind your keyboard. You seem sincere, but... just sayin', dude.

reply

King hated the Shining film... Also my hardon is about blind sheep not accepting any evidence. Sort of like flat earthers whwn you show them a picture of earth from space. If this was a court, you would be saying O.J. is innocent. Lmao

reply

There's a pretty big difference in what you're talking about though. One (this movie) is gathering evidence and making a verdict before the court has even stated its case (i.e. waiting until the actual movie is out), the other (flat-earthers) are just ignoring the court's decision. I am as frustrated with the flat-earthers as any other reasonable, intelligent person.

But you're talking about reversing the flow of information by berating and demeaning the film BEFORE IT'S EVEN OUT.

Yes, we can take the press release information, take what Sony says it's doing and infer that the film isn't going to be like the books. But can we automatically assume that because it's not like the books that it will be bad, or that it will be a random superhero story? No, this is a false assumption based on your previous bad experiences at the cinema combined with drawing what you want to out of the trailer while ignoring other parts.

In a way, you're being like the flat-earthers on this by pre-judging the film before it's released. You're taking evidence that you think indicates a bad finished product and using it to support your negative opinion, rather than letting the evidence be what it is, and withholding an opinion until the final product is released.

Possibly.

Tyler, bud, do you know the difference between opinion and fact? You have provided no evidence for your position, only opinions. If you do have evidence you have yet to provide, I would love to see it.

I am not as enthusiastic as others, having my own various reasons for reservation, but I am trying to be optimistic (which is contrary to my chronic pessimist programming).

Shall we have a mock trial, where we each present our case? Facts and evidence should be provided to opposing parties for review. But let's set something up? I'd put forth my recommendation for Joanna as our arbitrator, as she is a very level headed individual, and I feel she would be impartial to either of us. Again, I'd love to see your evidence...

I wrote this all out once and then the app crashed. Trying to remember everything I had written. I'm not as eloquent as some here, but I have run the gamut of frustration, nervousness, etc over different aspects of this film, but I am also reserving judgement till I see the final product. I am none of the things you claim others on this forum to be. I see the world as round, felt OJ was guilty, etc.

Are you blinded by your own arrogance and hate? Your focus determines your reality. Do you understand what this means? It's good advice, my frustrated friend. I remind myself of those words constantly. The Darkside is calling you?

reply

Also, if this were to be a Hunger Games style product, it's missing a lot. The marketing team would be getting it out already. Second, if they were wanting to capture a tween market they'd have started w/ a young Roland w/ Cuthbert, Alain, etc. They could have gone that route since they decided to change things up so much. Had they done that I'd have to agree with your analogy. But none of this movie so far makes me think of a tween series. I think you're wrong there, by a long shot. Elba or the kid playing Jake do not equal Jennifer Lawrence or *insert facsimile female*. So...

reply

I believe they can't get the money for marketing. Why? Gee, I wonder...

reply

While I'm no expert when it comes to marketing, I don't think it works that way, Tyler. Marketing is part of the films budget. See, it's allotted a certain of $ before production begins. Ten I believe marketing companies bid for a contract to do said marketing.

I would agree with you that the lack of marketing so far is odd, it's not unheard of for a film company to wait, say, 3 months prior to release. Perhaps Sony is playing it close to the chest here, but the 3 month window is still open. Will it hurt the final gross for the film? I'm not a forcaster, so I won't give an answer. Perhaps, perhaps not. Only Sony Knows.

Logical deduction says it's too early to say much about the success or demise of The Dark Tower film (potential) franchise.

Am I off the mark, Tyler?
