What do you think the level of subliminal...or perhaps not so subliminal...advertisement in this first The Dark Tower film is going to be?

One potentially groan-worthy moment could be inserted if and when Jake brings nourishment with him to Roland's world (assuming that either he takes the place of Eddie in this regard or does so in addition to Eddie). Can you imagine him munching on some fast food and telling the boy he enjoys the "tah-koze" from "Tah-ko Bell"?

Another thought...

Roland clearly preferred tuna sandwiches to hot dogs. Mayhaps in this film Jake will hand the gunslinger a Doctor Pepper followed by an A&W Root Beer and then be amused when he prefers the former?

If you go on Instagram and search #thedarktower, someone posted a video of Roland and Jake walking down the street and Roland is drinking what looks to be a Coke! Pretty cool lol!!

reply

That's neat. I'll have to check it out.

Edit: Ah, hell. Instagram requires an account. I don't suppose there is some way for you to share the picture here...pretty please ?

Hope this works! I could only find it on Instagram... Worth making one for following this movie! Tons of pics from the filming in New York taken by bystanders!

Crazy! Thank you, perceiveclothing .

Way back when I first retrieved an intact copy of Wizard and Glass from a dumpster (it's better than it sounds, trust me), I would never have conceived of a "The Dark Tower" FILM.

Seeing this come to life is unreal.

At the time, I was but a boy tagging along with an older cousin at a family business. Within the mall said business was located was a book store that would take their unsold stock and rip the front covers off before placing the books within a garbage bag and placing that within the dumpster dedicated for recycling paper.

During this one visit to the rear entrance when I took our trash out as a favor, I saw that the recycling dumpster was open and this bag was just sitting on top with an UNDAMAGED copy of "Wizard and Glass" that was in new condition prominently displayed among other novels which did have their covers removed. Well, I figured that since it was going to be destroyed, there would be no harm in seizing it for myself.

Now...I never did finish it right then and there (there were themes that went beyond my juvenile brain and aspects of the story confused me because I was reading them out of order), but it did spark my interest in the series later on when I rediscovered the rest of the books.

Nice. Its cool that they added that bit from the books. Although, in the books I think it was when he was in Eddie's body (in the 2nd book) when he first tastes Coke. It was written that he had never taken any drugs as strong as sugar or caffeine and he was shocked that Eddie would try to smuggle cocaine when such other drugs were legal.

In other words: "Sweet...Sweet!...SWEET!"

(Minor correction: Roland was back in his infection-ridden body on the beach of the Western Sea when he tried Pepsi....so at least he had partaken of a magnificent drink from another world with his own taste buds.)

As funny as it sounds, rereading/relistening to that portion of The Drawing of the Three always makes me appreciative of the everyday miracles we've grown so accustomed to.

Bring on the merch, I say.
