Why Don't We Have A God Damn Trailer?!

This is seriously bothering me. Not counting the leaked trailer, which is the only footage anyone has seen so far, why don't we have an official trailer yet? Or an official trailer date? What in the flying *beep* is so hard about releasing a few minutes of footage?

Is it because the release date is not going to be February? That seems to be the only thing that makes sense at this point and it's extremely frustrating.

There are movies coming out later in the year that already have trailers out and are promoting more than the DT movie. It's seriously like they WANT the movie the bomb.

How do you not have a trailer for a movie when it's supposed to premier 3 months from now?

They are *beep* with an adaptation that could have had the potential to be one of the most moving and impressive things ever put to film. With endless potential and a whole universe to draw from. This project doesn't seem to be getting the effort and attention to detail that it deserves.

out of interest, as i think i missed any announcements, do we have any proof it's being delayed? any sources?

No, nothing official. Some are assuming this because of how Sony is not giving any official updates. I am also of the opinion that they are moving the release date back, they are just trying to figure out when. The whole situation just feels funny to those who have a feeling for hoodoo (ha).

Sony is being a buncha bumhugs. I just don't like the total media silence on what's going on. There is no official word. So what are we supposed to think if not the worst?

Though I suppose it's possible they are pushing it because they aren't happy with the quality and want to improve it. But, you'd think they would have SOME kind of time frame at least. Something...jeez

It makes sense if they do due to there still being no trailer, especially with the head of Sony film under pressure, but we'll have to wait and see!

My 2 cents :

The trailer was "intentionnaly leaked" as a marketing test.

"Sony Pictures" knows a fanbase can make a film bomb even before it's released with intensive bashing on the internet those days so they were a bit anxious and planned this leak.

The DT fans didn't like the trailer at all so now Sony is working on a new one (maybe even on a partial rewriting of the movie and reshoots) because they don't want their potential franchise to be dead before it's officially born.

We're talking Sony here... so yes, I agree - it is very likely that Sony released the unfinished trailer to get the feeling of fans. Maybe a good thing? Hard to say... one thing is a fact, Sony doesn't seem to know how they feel about this film.

I agree! Sorta... I know that they filmed a TON of footage while making this because Arcel works that way... He is a big post production wizard from what I understand. If they push it back, they push it back... I know I will get my head ripped off for saying this, but Nikolaj Arcel is a talented director and I trust that he will do us right.

Arcel is definitely a very talented director and we all know he directed an oscar nominated film. I want to see his vision for The Dark Tower so badly, I know he's a huge fan of the source material. Also, I am absolutely stoked about the screenwriter he brought on board, Anders Thomas Jensen, it's such a pity that his name almost never comes up here. He won an oscar in 1999, was nominated three times altogether and in 2011, he wrote the screenplay for the Oscar (and Golden Globe) winning movie "Haevnen" (Best foreign film). It's so great he'll also be involved in the upcoming Wizard & Glass tv series, we'll be in for a treat!

I mean I guess I can see Sony releasing the unfinished trailer on purpose to get the fan reactions and gauge how people think about the footage so far. And maybe it is a good thing they are taking their time IF they are trying to make the film better. Instead of just rushing the release and having it bomb. That would seriously depress me. I really want this film to be good. It has so much potential. It's one of it not the greatest series of books I've ever read.

But I just wish they would be upfront with where the project stands. Don't say we're gonna have a trailer by such and such a date and then give us silence. Don't say the film is slated to be release on Feb 17th when we don't even have an official trailer yet in friggin November!

It's *beep* like this that can cause people to lose faith in a project before it's even out and that can hurt the film a lot.

I hear ya, monster. I've been waiting for weeks to hear that the movie's release is being pushed back, but we have nothing but the tumbleweed blowing by. I think a lot of us have simply assumed it's being pushed because they canceled for popfest? At this point I've jumped straight from assuming to hoping because of the fact there has been absolutely zilch to promote this film. It's terribly frustrating. At least I have the books to distract me in the mean time.

According to Wikipedia a trailer is supposed to be released during the holiday season. Yes, I know they are not the epitome of accuracy.

They have announced it is pushed back to the summer. July 28th. Rumor is they were not happy with some of the visual effects, and are revamping some of them.

Yes! I totally agree, though i wonder why he didn't collaborate with Rasmus Heisterberg. But he did bring his cinematographer Rasmus Videbæk with him!

I just hate Sony Pictures so much. On average it seems that 1 out of every 15 of their movies is something better than a desperate cash grab.

i completely agree. i totally hate sony at this point. and if they're saying we're supposed to get something during the "holiday season" then i would assume that could be as late as the end of December. Which still would be insane for a projected February release. There's no way that February date can be accurate anymore. It just can't be. Glad to see im not the only one whose frustrated over all this nonsense.
