Favorite Quotes?

What are your favorite quotes from the series?

"Go then, there are other worlds than this."

"Blain the Train is a pain (Choo-Choo)."

"I do not aim with my hand. He who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I aim with my eye."

A new topic! Well, this is refreshing. :) Off the top of my head, one of them has to be:

"Kill if you will, but command me nothing!"

I think that might've been the first time we see Roland truly fed up and angry lol. Such fearlessness and nobility in that one sentence.

reply

Ugh. Thanks for pointing out to me just how badly I need to read these books again! I thought this would be easy, got to thinking and... the crickets chirped loudly. These aren't my favorites, but these are ones that I can remember off the top of my head:

"Beware the Dandelo."

"If it's so pure why does it have a crack in it?"

"I love thee, Roland!"

and okay, one favorite

"Thank you for my second chance. Thank you... Father."

reply

I like "Mmmm, that's a good pizza!" Except the pizza had been crossed off and replaced with another word.

Roland upon pressing the attack against the Calla Wolves:

"Now, gunslingers! Now you Sisters of Oriza! Now, now! Kill them! No quarter! Kill them all!"

You get all the good lines, what with your books and margin notes and GOD, I really need to hit this series SO hardy but I know they're in storage somewhere in the deepest recesses of my garage... Looks like I kind some boxes to unpack!

Oh, that's a good query!

Spidey! Without attempts at provocation or insults, please weigh in. As a reputed fan of the novels (and a well understood hater of the movie), can you toss out a few of your favorite lines? This is a fun strand and a safe place.

He does not discuss the books beyond "Roland is white".

Not a quote but I came across this lovely bit, when Roland is attacked by the people of Tull.

A small boy squirmed at him [Roland] with a knife and made the only deep cut, across the bulge of his calf. The Gunslinger blew his head off.

King knows just how to sneak in those unlikely...or seemingly unlikely...occurrences, huh?

(After all, who would suspect that one of the biggest threats to him ended up being a boy? A hearty man seems a far likelier candidate.)

I'd consider that a quote. Not just a character's words but a passage can be a quote as well. Nice gem.

So many quotes worth posting, but I'll keep it simple with the one I'm planning as a script tat:

"Time's the thief of memory."

Simple, obvious and yet, oddly profound.

lmao! I wasn't going to quote, but i think i will now.

The palm of his hand was a dull red. Not a good sign.
I jerk off left-handed, he thought, at least that’s something

i had to re-read this a couple of times as it's so not Roland. I don't think i've ever read him like this throughout the rest of the books. Very much more Eddie than Roland...

reply

Also a goodie!  Is that in "The Gunslinger" or the beginning of "The Drawing of the Three"?
I find that even Roland's language changed considerably in Drawing, all the "do ya ken" stuff he threw around in Jake's company is pretty much gone with Eddie. And he's much more talkative too, despite being near death.

Yep tDotT. I noticed that too, despite his initial disdain of Eddie he's a lot chattier and seems to appreciate his humour in spite of himself. Eddie reminding him of Cuthbert i assume...

I think my favorite passage was from Wizard and Glass when Roland sees Thunderclap and has his first vision of the Tower. Also up there is Susan Delgado's death.

And:

"After all these years. After all these centuries. Finally in my sights."

Roland let me die. That is the truth.
I still love him.
