Are Eddie and Susannah not in this?

I don't see their names in the cast.

I really hope this movie is good. The Dark Tower is a really odd story, and King's stories aren't really known for making "good" movies. Entertaining yes, but good? I wouldn't call IT, or Maximum Overdrive, or Children of the Corn, or quite a few of his movies good.

Both Suze and Eddie are slated to make their debut in a sequel.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

*spoilers*They haven't been confirmed for this film, but you never know it could end with Roland entering the first door on the beach and we see a quick flash of Eddie Dean.

Kings adaptations are always odd. His horrors don't really often adapt well to screen but his non-horrors (Green Mile, Shawshank, Stand by me) seem to be really highly regarded. It'll be interesting to see how this gets adapted!

It was my understanding that this movie was going to be a big three hour epic that combined elements of all of the books and concludes the story.

Turns out that isn't the case.

But The Dead Zone, The Shawshank Redemption, Misery, Stand By Me, The Shining,The Mist, Dolores Claiborne and Carrie and all pretty good in my book.

Even some of the lesser ones, like Christine, has some okay things if you look for them.
