Steven King calls this "a sequel"

This movie is not Book One of the series. Apparently it is a re-worked sequel for those who didn't like the way the books ended. This movie starts somewhere in the middle of the books; that's the reason for all the minor characters.

That is truly shocking (and very accurate) news. 

Okay, this is far too easy....who is Steven King, some kinda alternate reality doppelganger?

If you've read the books you would see that this actually makes a lot of sense.

reply

Using this as an excuse to not even try to adapt it right, does not make any sense. They just couldn't be bothered to attempt to do it right, and nobody involved cares enough about the books or has even bothered to read them to try and steer the film in the right direction.

reply

Perhaps, I would also prefer a faithful adaptation, but we've waited for this for so long that Ill take whatever I can take. Plus, everyone knows that stephen king adaptations are rarely any good so I dont have high hopes for this. Hopefully Im wrong.

reply

Well, let's keep in mind that "rarely" leaves room for hope, Toe! In the spirit of Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and hopefully this new It they're throwing at us, I'll remain optimistic.

From what Ive seen and read, it looks like its going to be good. But the dark tower saga doesnt deserve good, it deserves great!!!

Ah there you are again, pretending like you know all the ins and outs of this movie. But no no no, making a sequel to a very unsatisfying ending that might give the story some actual closure instead of a predestination paradox is TOTALLY a worse idea than making seven full length movies that will only get worse over time as the books they are adapting from get thicker and thicker (Harry Potter anyone?).

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

reply

Because cheaply thrown together politically correct version aimed at teenagers will be a great ending.
Well done showing you aren't really a fan of the book and your own idiocy.

reply

what makes you think its aimed at teens Spidey?

reply

That is an idea he has pulled out of nowhere ( not what I was originally going to say) to support his poinless battle against a movie he has not seen.

reply

oh, that seems quite silly really. It seem obvious to anyone who's paid attention that it's not aimed at teens.

reply

The cr*ppy leaked trailer showed that very clearly, only the delusional are trying to fool themselves otherwise.

reply

I'm not sure what you mean? Do you mean to say that your preference is to have the movie close the loop of the books? I understand some readers were unhappy with the ending, and i personally found SoS to be a painful read but isn't having the movie end the entire finale of the actual series a bit dramatic? I would like to think they wouldn't make so many changes that it would actually end TDT for good.

reply

Well, there are always the previous iterations of the loop that we've never seen even if the quest for the Tower will have officially been finished.

Or, maybe King can do something similar to what Masamune Shirow did with "Ghost in the Shell" by optioning out the DT universe and mythos so that others can tell their own stories within it(in a professional-level, fully legal fan fiction kind of way). I mean King has already allowed something somewhat similar by selling on the cheap the rights to his "Dollar Baby" stories for adaption by amateurs.
