why is he black in the movie?

is he in the book?

reply

No he's White in the books, Despite him not bearing much resemblance to how he was in the books I still think Elba could pull it off, If this is a sequel to the books I would hope that there is a explanation to why he looks different, or maybe one quick throw away line from Walter about the change- I want this to be the same Roland from the books

reply

ah ok, Elba is a great actor he should do fine, however explanation would be good ,duting out my old book now! time to reread

reply

There is a reason below. Check it out only if you read all of the first seven books.

This film is a kind of cosmic continuation/reset where certain details have changed.

reply

Because the director is a moron and doesn't have a clue about the books. So just used this as a chance for a PC publicity stunt.

reply

Sorry guys, that wasn't my best spider comment. Got a bit cliched there with the "PC publicity stunt" remark. Oh well. You can't always write your finest.

Go away you complete lunatic! I'm not you and everyone knows it!

Whoops, meant to write that last one from my spider account.

reply

*beep* off. I know I'm much smarter than you but luckily for me you are not me, or I would be very depressed.

reply

Why the multiple accounts? This is some Andy Kaufman *beep*

reply

I have one account, I just have a weird stalker following me around the boards claiming to be me.

reply

Do you have any proof of his not having a clue or is this just another jump to conclusion?

By the way that the interviews have portrayed him, he actually seems a big fan of Kings work and the Dark Tower, I remember one article citing it's Kings work that inspired him to learn English. To me, that says a lot about knowledge of his work, passion for the project and his want of this to do well so I'd say he's got a good clue. I doubt he would do a PC casting move based on... Hell, I don't even know where you're coming from anymore with silly accusations like these, they just all seem to roll in to one. I feel this may be a pot calling kettle black situation with the insults you are throwing around, if you think a director who has worked hard in this industry his whole life and gained respect of his peers and audiences is a moron, I'd take a hard look in the mirror and reconsider.

I used to enjoy coming to these boards but I've almost given up. There's some decent people out there with differing opinions on the crew, story and casting but it gets tiresome seeing immature and unfounded accusations thrown around like a child throwing their toys out the pram because they didn't get their own way. 'SJW', 'mindless shill', 'I'm not racist' (whilst complaining about the melanin content in someone's skin) have all become empty words. It's time to grow up, surely.

We're all fans of the books or at least are interested in them, it's why we're here, not one single person has claim to them and can say what's right or wrong - if you don't like what's happening, get over it and either forget it's happening or give it a chance.

In response to OP, yeah he's being played by a black guy in this version but he's white in the books but he's a good actor. Theres a lot of fuss by some as another character who isn't in this film is black and it affects their relationship for a few chapters in one book out of 8, including a few racial slurs which can easily be change if she appears in a sequel. For now though it's no big deal. Elba is a good actor so I can't wait to see him give this character a go.

As they'd say in the Calla, "You say true, I say thankya." :)

Between the people who are irrationally obsessed with Roland's race due to the casting and some of the new people who purposely or accidentally make repetitive posts about this same topic, this horse has been beaten well beyond death. Some of us have discussed much more interesting things about the adaptation and its potential sequels (music, other possible castings, potential plot points, etc.), but people will have to dig to find them.

However, regardless of everything that's gone on here, I'm still looking forward to seeing this movie.
