RIP
Paul Walker
I turned it off after a couple of seconds to enjoy that piece of lovely goodness once its out in high resolution.
What was that great song-remix? Something by Nirvana or Metallica? Just caught a second of it but you can already hear Junkie XL's influence. Stoked for October 29th!
Books are a uniquely portable magic. ~Stephen King
sounds like Fred Durst, guessing Limp Bizkit remix. They already did one for another Sony movie.
shareDamn, i missed it already :(
Anyone have copy of that trailer?
Send it to my email [email protected] please.
Sadly, I think it's completely gone!
shareNothing is gone if shown in internet.
shareNever gone once on internet

R-rating confirmed. I had a good feeling about this one. :)
Oh, the headshot and blood?

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
I'm looking forward to this Action Hero version of Roland. He was always so damn crippled in the books. With his missing fingers and what not. This movie looks to really show his combat prowess. Even though he still kicks alot of butt in the books.
shareSadly we won't get the real trailer until December according to Latino Reveiw. So Im GlAD this got leaked. Maybe this movie will get some damn awareness for once. (Probably not much more but evey little helps.)

Yup, if they already show blood splatters in the first (and presumably aimed for general audiences) trailer, I'd say it p. much seals the deal.
Aside from that, the trailer didn't make much of an impression, not sure if it can stir up many people's attention outside of the DT and Elba/Matthew fandoms.
Looks a little more visually generic than I had hoped for. I guess I was looking for something slightly more trippy. But it's just a trailer after all, an unfinished one, and they obviously don't want to scare your average cinema goer away with too much weird stuff.
I would also have prefered less of a Blade-esque/X-Men-esque costume design, but that I already knew about so I was prepared. And Elba seems badass.
All in all it shows potential, but doesn't have a slam dunk vibe too it.
And now it makes sense why they made Jake older. With a 11 or 12 year old there's a huge chance it would feel too much like Narnia or something.
Im glad I got to see this before it got taken down everywhere. It has been leaked for quite a while that this movie would focus more on Jake and put Roland more into a sidekick role and all this trailer did was confirm that. Its really unfortunate. The Dark Tower is Rolands story. Its Rolands journey. This trailer makes it look like Jakes story and journey.
Also, watch it while you can https://vid.me/ExZG
Looks more to me like it'll be Roland's story, through Jake's eyes. For a movie you have to have at least one protagonist the audience can identify with. Which is different from a book where you can have a plethora of weird characters and still have it be successful. A person from the real world, joining Roland in Ka-Tet (elevating Jake from his role in the original Gunslinger) is a smart move on the filmmakers' part. It grounds the audience in the familiar and allows things to slowly move to the stranger, trippier parts of Mid-World.
Thing about these movies is, they have to capture a new audience and give fans what they want. If they ere more towards making it new-viewer friendly, I'm not against that, as long as the end result is a good film overall.
I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

If this film is successful and a sequel is greenlit...what will determine if it too will be viewed mostly from Jake's POV? Audience demographics?

Keep in mind the entire Star Wars Trilogy (and much of the Prequels) is framed through the point of view of Artoo and Cee Threepio

Is there any poor decision you wouldn't excuse? Genuine question, which I'm sure will get a pointless reply.
shareIf this is a genuine question, and you would actually hear a genuine reply and not cast it off as "pointless" or "irrelevant:"
I believe in waiting until the film is actually released to make any kind of judgment about how it is made. I know, this seems a foreign concept to you since you seem to already have your mind made up about it. If the film is as the trailer suggests (and keep in mind MANY trailers for films in past years have been misleading about what a movie is about - take the American for example), and Jake is the main focus of the film, I can accept a shift in overall storytelling dynamic if it is done for the benefit of a new audience and results in a good story.
As I have said before, if the film is horrible I will cry off, but still am waiting for the finished product to make any judgments.

I completely agree. Waiting for the film to be released before making a judgment call would be the most ideal thing to do for ALL of us.
I choose to have faith in this film because I think Idris Elba is powerful as well as McConaughey.
If I thought the ingredients for the film were absolute garbage I wouldn't even be here. That is the difference between some of us on this board.
Certain people choose to exude this permanently negative attitude and denounce something that they haven't even experienced yet. That is high school BS in my opinion. I see a total lack of maturity when it comes to people saying certain characters are pedophiles, suddenly homosexual, etc. just to get a stir out of the true believers. If I loved a book that was being made into a film that I was not excited about, I would never prowl that film's message board and purposely try to bring down the morale of everyone who was enthusiastic about it. I just don't see the point in expending negative energy on something that ultimately is meant for our entertainment.....but has now turned into a sadistic game of attention seeking behavior.
i agree also. But what is to be said of the ones that ask and encourage an "antagonist" to keep volunteering and contributing when it appears to be for sport and/or ridicule or even entertainment?
shareI never asked Spider to contribute for sport or ridicule tina so please stop assuming things about my intentions that just aren't true. I made a favorite quotes/moments/characters thread with the invite to all to participate. I specifically invited Spider because he has set himself up as such an authority on the books and what they're about yet has offered little knowledge of their content beyond, "Roland is white!!" That and some references to the dynamic between him and Detta is literally all he has referenced about the books on these boards. I was genuinely curious about what other aspects if the books he enjoys - or at least to see if he he has anything positive to contribute.
Fact remains that EVERY attempt at a positive outreach has been ignored or unanswered by him. Why do you assume that us asking him to share favirite story moments or be more positive in some way is an attempt at ridicule?
I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.
--Sayid
Apologies max if i seemed to be referring to you specifically, i see the error in where i posted that would make it appear that way. I don't actually keep tabs on which posters post what regarding spider. I see that some posters have genuinely wanted his honest opinion, yet there is a plethora of posts and even whole threads addressed to him directly that are clearly 'come out and play spider'. And then other posters become literally upset at his negativity towards TDT, yet obviously this was going to happen by baiting him. Sure the constant negativity gets to some people, but we all have the option to ignore if it gets to us or by all means poke back. Stupid expression and maybe it's an aussie one only, but "don't poke a sh*t unless you want it on you". I just find it silly that spider is habitually goaded and then others get sincerely upset at his subsequent reactions. I did personally address spider directly asking if he had any hope at all in even sequels if they would be more true to the books, but he has declined to answer. Which is fine, but i also do wonder why someone would be such a regular prolific contributor to a board for a movie that they seem unrelentingly adamantly against. Though in saying that, i've tried to put myself in his position and i do think that spider would receive nothing but scorn and accusations of being a hypocrite if he were to share now what may interest him in TDT or potential sequels. Hopper for example has contributed positively to this board and then has been targeted for this because he is against the casting of Idris. These verbal attacks were very nasty in nature and were used for the sole purpose to 'name and shame' past opinions that had nothing at all to do with his recent positive contributions. I don't get this... Can i be opposed to the casting of Idris yet still look forward to other aspects of TDT anyway? I hope so. Would i be targeted in every thread because of a past faux pas? I kind of don't blame spider for not sharing more after seeing the treatment towards hopper. Btw, spider was engaging without negativity at all on the favourite books/adaptations thread, and certainly gave me a chuckle or 2 with his succinct way of expressing his opinions. Funnily enough it was only me and one other poster (joanna i think) that engaged in discussion with him. Hmm only 2 other posters engaged in discussion with him after the constant harassment towards him to speak about something other than how much TDT is being butchered? Without having a go at anyone, i do have to say this looks a bit contradictory. (yes Wesker, false equivalency etc).
I'm not defending anyone specifically here. Hey i could even bring tyler into this, though in all honesty when i read his posts, i think he's just taking the p*ss out of it. Gay Roland for example. Seems like we're taking opposition to TDT a little too much to heart. Instead of can we all just get along, can we all just lighten up a bit?
I think the common thread I tend to see in the anti-Idris posts is this idea that he was cast solely to appease the SJWs or for some other identity politics/politically correct reason. Not every character being changed from white to black is done so for ID politics. Johnny Storm was cast as black because Michael Jordan is the director's friend. There are in fact many pieces of input that occur when casting a role and while yes, there may be an Executive saying something like "It'll be good outreach for black audiences" I highly doubt Elba's casting STARTED there and really began with auditions and line readings, like every other casting choice in theatre and film. But many of the detractors won't even consider this, which is the infuriating part of trying to engage them. They get their feet firmly planted in the one-and-only reason of SJW which has become so played out on these boards that they kinda set themselves up for the ridicule. I don't agree with much of the ridicule, although I have engaged in some snarky comments myself but they make it SO EASY. So there you have it.

Bump.

Looks like they're turning it into a generic "save the world" plot. Pretty disappointing.
shareI'm sorry but Dark Tower has always been a "save the world" plot. That's the whole point of Roland's quest is that he believes ascending to the top and blowing the Horn of Eld will fix all the badness done to the beams and the Tower.
I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

Yes, but it wasn't as generic as this makes it look. I understand the stakes were the fate of the world(s) in the books. But it was still a very personal quest for Roland, and his pursuit of the Man in Black was pretty much for personal revenge, not to just stop him from doing his evil deeds.
I dunno. Just looks really generic action movie to me.
Maybe I need to get further into the tale, but thus far his motivation for hunting the Man in Black has been because he believes he can lead him to the Tower. He's desperate to get to the Tower, and he believes the Man in Black can lead him there. While I don't think Roland is entirely comfortable with "evil deeds" so to speak, I don't think revenge or justice would have been enough for him to make the sacrifice he makes to reach him. I always believed for Roland, it was always about the Tower and nothing else mattered more.
shareYeah, you do eventually learn that the Man in Black has a connection to Roland's past, and his family. And true, he does also pursue him to get to the Tower.
shareI think I remember the familial connection, but it's been over a decade since I last read these books so it's slowly coming back. Hell, I'm reading the Gunslinger and at points thinking to myself, "Why does this not look familiar in any way, shape or form?" Ah well. At least it's almost like reading a new book, and even though I pretty much know what will happen, I have a renewed appreciation for it.
shareMarten (the Man in Black, Walter Paddick, Randal Flagg, etc.) coveted Roland's mother and made the moves he did which caused Roland to come of age early, go the Mejis baronies, got his father embroiled in a series of events in which he was eventually killed, and conspired with the Farson conspiracy all to try to win the hand of Roland's mother and later to spite the Line of Eld because Roland killed her.
I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

See, I actually remembered the seduction/affair that resulted in Roland taking the path he did, and I also remembered the tragic trick the witch played so that Roland would kill his mother, but everything else up there is just static. I'm looking forward to reading it, not that your cliff notes weren't helpful. I need to plug through the last bit of the Gunslinger so I can move on to Drawing of the Three!
shareWe really didn't see much in the trailer... And the movie is supposed to clock in at 2 and a half hours... I think we will get some depth in that amount of time.
