My Optimistic List (Haters Need Not Apply)

Okay! So there have been a lot (I mean A LOT) of posts from the members of our board who are not so... shall we just say hopeful for this movie? Yes, that's not insulting so we shall say that. So I was just thinking about how it's been a long time since hearing from the less disgruntled among us, so lets go ahead and revive some old topics, shall we? If the haters can, why, we can, too!

So, what is JoJo excited about?

1. Roland on the screen! I love Idris Elba as an actor, and I love his Roland look.
2. Finally getting a glimpse of Midworld.
3. Laying the groundwork for the introduction of our primary ka-tet!
4. An entire television show for Wizard and Glass! I am so hopeful for this... Very nervous about what they might do with my Cuthbert, but very hopeful, too!
5. Oy. Because... I mean... Oy. He'll show up eventually!
6. My cousin and I are planning a Dark Tower premiere party. Turn hard cider into graf, turn lobster rolls into lobstrosity rolls, play a little Velcro Zipper and we are getting SERIOUSLY Midworld up in here! And with the new release date we don't have to worry about rescheduling due to a blizzard!
7. I FINALLY talked my sister into reading the books so I have time to get my sister hooked before the movie comes out!
8. The movie buzz has inspired me to pick up the books again, and it's so nice getting reacquainted with my favorite series!

Okay, that's it for now. Feel free to add to mine or create your own lists! And please, please, please... Can we keep this positive? There are plenty of negative strands that nay-sayers can add to. I'd consider it a kindness!

Long days, pleasant nights!

I really think Idris will kill it as Roland. I think he will outshine Matthew. I'm curious how the snobby critcs and snobby internet who haven't read the books will react to the story. I'm hoping Idris will become synonymous with the Character of Roland. Like Jackman is with Logan:)

Ditto for me for items 1 - 5!  To be a little more specific...

1. I can't wait to see Roland and the Man in Black face off on screen. Elba and McConaughey both have the ability to be very intense, so I think they'll do very well.

2. Very interested to see how they'll go about telling the story for film, and eager to see what Easter eggs (and foreshadowing for future films) they'll include for us fans.

3. Excited about the prospect of official Dark Tower merchandise: posters, figurines, shirts, etc.

4. I'm really interested to hear Junkie XL's score.

And for future productions...

5. Eddie, O/Detta/Susannah, and Oy. :)

6. The Wizard and Glass TV show, where we'll get to see Roland and his original ka-tet, Susan, and of course, Gilead in its heyday.

A movie with a good desert really touches my inner child still questing for a fantasy. So, I am hoping that The Dark Tower adequately represents the Mohaine.

What really intrigues me are the many possibilities for the ending. How different will Jake Chambers' fate be? Is a trans-dimensional doorway leading to an airplane going to make an appearance before the screen cuts to black?

(Now, assuming that my keister stays put around these parts until the tail end of July, I will attempt to rope fellow cousins into also making the trip to the movie theater.)

At first I hated the mere idea of a Dark Tower movie, but now I'm kind of hopeful. I'm starting to like the way they are... doing stuff, if that makes sense. For example: the casting of Idris Elba as Roland. Since Clint Eastwood is too old for the part, whoever they casted would seem like a caricature, they accepted that trying to be completely faithful to the book wouldn't work, so they did something else. I'd much rather have a good actor as Roland then some Clint Eastwood lookalike that couldn't act, which would end up ruining the character really bad. Also, now I'm excited by the fact that it's a new story, not written in any book yet. This way we get more into the DT world, and if it's bad it won't be so offensive, it won't "ruin" any book.

it won't "ruin" any book.

I never understood the "It'll ruin x" argument. There is nothing that can retroactively alter an already existing work of fiction: it will still exist and still be available for all to enjoy.

I can understand it in a scenario where the original work leaves questions to be answered and those answers are found wanting or consequences are erased.

Positivity is a wonderful thing.

I am most excited about the casting of both Roland and the Man in Black. The idea of Idris and McC going head-to-head over the length of this series is perfect. F the haters because Elba is an awesome actor and in the shots we've seen looks amazing as our gunslinger.

I love the idea of this being a sequel to the series and that Roland may possess the Horn of Eld in the upcoming movie. That just breathes so much life into the book series and concept that I can't help but appreciate. Ka is a wheel.

Oy and the gang all together on screen will be super fun. I'm wondering if they will do any crazy moves like getting actors from tie-in movies like Anthony Hopkins from Hearts in Atlantis to cameo.

Party sounds awesome. Definitely gotta have a Nozz-A-La cocktail/soda.

Great posts! I can't think of anything to add. I love the party idea, but I am the only I know who has read the books.

Because this deserves a bump. :)
