Who should play roland if they ever make a proper adaption?

Obviously that will be very unlikely once this ranks, given how difficult it was to get this financed and in production.
But looking on the positive side of they ever do make another adaption it will be because someone at a film studio recognised that it's the fault of the director, actor and writer of this pile of sh*t. So they would I imagine go in a different direction (so actually like the books, and cast properly).

So who would make a good Roland?
Viggo Mortensen would be good but would probably be tool old by the time another adaption comes around. Scott Eastwood maybe, who would be a little older by the time it came to it (and there's always make up for aging up an actor). Possibly Hugh Jackman if he let himself get a little slimmer to fit the build.

reply

Love to see Idris Elba do it ;)

reply

This is hypothetical version, one that would be made by people who actually read the books first. I'm aware of the oh so clever sarcasm in your comment, but if I correct you. Well then you might learn something.

reply

Criticising Elba for his missing acting chops and suggesting Scott Eastwood instead.

reply

Shown just as much acting range as Elba (who has never played a role beyond the same one over and over again), and at least he would look the part. Elba is a fail on both counts.

reply

dude eastwood couldnt shine edris shoes

reply

First, who the hell is 'edris'?
Second, Idris Elba is a sh*tty actor with a big ego.

reply

Apparently not shἶἰtty enough to meet your subterranean standards of sourness .

reply

This all you have to add? I assume you were trying to be funny, didn't work and you are still a ridiculously full of sh*t cretin.

reply

Idris Elba is going to slay the role. His acting chops are vicious.

Let the dream die, Spider......

reply

If you mean he is going to slay the chance of ever seeing Roland done right on film, then yes you are correct. Because when he's terrible and the film is a sh*tfest, there will likely never be another adaption because this will destroy that possibility with its stink.
But this thread is a hypothetical question for anyone whose actually read the books to add their suggestions. Now you can feel free to go away, unless you feel like wishing death on me some more?

reply

And yes his acting chops are vicious... Viciously bad.

reply

Scott Eastwood? "Appearance over ability" makes much sense to me .

P.S. Spider...would you consider playing Mordred? You already have the moniker and attitude down pat.

reply

Well considering Elba is a terrible one more actor who has played the same role in everything, they've not even got ability in him. At least they would have something close to the appearance with Eastwood (whose admittedly limited ability shown so far is still an improvement on Elba).

reply

(whose admittedly limited ability shown so far is still an improvement on Elba).

Yeah...the majority kind of disagree with you there.

You and your imaginary friends don't count as more than one person fool.

Denial of reality is an unhealthy condition. You might want to consider getting it checked out with the nearest qualified mental health care professional.

reply

Yes you should really do that. That is a genuine problem with you, and maybe once you've done that you might be less of a moron. But I wouldn't get your hopes up too much... You'll likely still be a complete fool.

reply

. Did you really pull a "No U!" I expected higher quality trolling from Spider. After all, you've had a year plus of complaining to get it right.

reply

Can I help if you, being the witless fool that you are, adequately described yourself. Leave an open goal like that and I can't ignore it.
It's cute that you call others a troll when you an idiotic, completely full of sh*t SJW.
Also you've yet to reply on the thread asking you to explain why Elba is the perfect choice for Roland? I challenged your mentally deficient self to answer after you avoided it, like you do every question you can't answer (like this one, because it would require actually knowing the books and how Roland is described).

reply

It isn't my fault you have poor eyesight and/or selective memory. Get that checked out as well.

reply

Are you purposefully describing yourself, or is just coincidence and you are infact that stupid? Getting eerie how well you are describing yourself now. There was me thinking you were a mentally backward, racist and hypocritical social justice moron with zero self awareness. But maybe you are aware of exactly what you are.

reply

So ignoring the resident shill fools who've commented so far (and added nothing, presumably because that would require having actual knowledge of the books to know how Roland should look), does anyone with a working brain whose actually read the books have any suggestions to the question in the original post?

reply

I've never been able to shake Daniel Day Lewis as the only perfect Roland. The looks, the acting, the almost insane devotion to his craft, the presence. Even in 10 years he would still be perfect.

reply

He would be very good but has never taken on any role where he's followed up with a sequel, as far as I know, so unlikely to be the lead in any ongoing series.

reply

True, and he takes mammoth breaks between films. I also think he would balk at some of the more fantastical elements. If there was a standalone film of just The Gunslinger, he would be a great choice. And i really wouldn't mind just having book 1 as it's own epic tale of Roland as he was first introduced to us. Ruthless and intense and only hanging on to his last bit of humanity by a shred. I think DDL could embody this Roland perfectly. It would make for a very serious dramatic movie too, not too many bells and whistles or action based.

reply

Elba would be a good choice, how about him?

reply

Try engaging your brain and then try again.

reply

Spidey, I don't think "engaging his brain" is the problem here. The problem here is that you hate the idea of Elba playing Roland so much that you can't fathom the idea that others here might actually find it an inspired choice. I don't mind people having differing opinions except when those people are unwilling to accept anyone else's.

You don't like Elba. Yes, we ALL understand that at this point, but can't you just say, "I hate Elba as an actor and would have rather seen, So-And-So play him." Instead you tend to insult any of us who have differing opinions, and Spidey, that is the problem. I honestly do respect your opinion, but I can't respect belligerence.

Long days and pleasant nights, bud.

reply

I think the OP is a c u n t and Elba is a boss

Thankee sai

reply

Well luckily for me the opinion of braindead dipsh*ts doesn't mean anything, neither does your sad little insult.

reply

This coming from the guy trying to recast Roland before he has seen the film haha

reply

The question of the original post was who would fit Roland if there was ever another adaption after this tanks. You can either answer that or not, but suggesting the same awful PC stunt casting of this future flop is literally the worst idea ever.

reply

Liam Neeson
Josh Holloway
Mads Mikkelsen
Adrien Brody
Nathan Fillion
Ray Stevenson
Alexander Skarsgård
Alan Tudyk
Michael Fassbender
Timothy Olyphant
Brad Pitt
Jason Isaacs
Henry Rollins
Stephen McHattie

After the stink of this abomination fades. Pipe the property to Netflix where it can be done properly.

Let the whole world tremble at my name

reply

A few good names there, but I like Elba more than at least half of them.

I love Brody, but not for Roland. Lost was my favorite show, but Holloway is no Roland either. Henry Rollins? Really?

White doesn't make you right.

reply

I remember suggesting Schwarzenegger and the resident arachnid wholeheartedly genuinely supported him over Elba.

---
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

reply

Because even he has a better chance of pulling off Roland than Elba.

reply

Good suggestions. I like Holloway, but he's not a great fit for Roland. And Alan Tudyk is a very talented and underrated actor, but I couldn't picture him as Roland either.

All of them however would be infinitely better than Elba.
