Anyone Out There Think An Anime Series Is Too Much To Ask?
Lifted directly from the Marvel Comics?

Considering that I believe you're referring to Jae Lee's artwork, anything based off his work would be awesome IMO.
But, I don't think a dark tower adaptation should be an anime, despite how much I am NOT looking forward to this movie.
Now, a live action adaptation inspired by Lee's aesthetic? That I would love to see.
Oddly enough, I read TDT books first and the comics after, but after I read Lee's run on the material, there has been no other way for my mind to visualize TDT universe. He has totally defined it for me from a visual standpoint.
Why wouldn't an anime/high quality two-dimensional series of films work?

This is just my thought, but anime in general only appeals to a much smaller audience. Don't get me wrong, I love a good face fault as much as the next person, but I don't see anime working for this. Though it would be funny to see a giant teardrop appear next to Eddie as a crazed Shardik charges in his direction... Oh, not the anime style you're referring to, but at this point my mind is having so much fun with this!
shareMaybe not anime, specifically, but an animated feature, WHICH IS PRATICALLY THE SAME THING, seeing that everything is animated in S. Korea these days. Not complaining; the artwork in the DC animated features is pretty on-point. And I LOVE anime. Either way, Lee's artwork brought to life, or just straight anime, it would be a real treat to see.

Of course! You don't need hyper-exaggerated features and over-the-top comedy when it comes to anime. The biggest example of high quality animation IN anime is Akira...and it is a dark plus serious take on the cyberpunk genre.

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door proves that you can have exciting gunfights in 2D.

The Dark Tower need not be a Japanese production, though. Check out this scene from Heavy Metal ->

The animation isn't as crisp/insanely detailed as Akira/Princess Mononoke/Ghost in the Shell/etc, but it is pretty violent.
Bottom line? We CAN get a The Dark Tower animated film that is beautifully drawn and suitably mature. Only problem is, very few studios these days are going to pump the necessary funding into a mainstream R-rated two-dimensional film.
