So I went through some recent / coming movies. Most from Sony, some from other companies.
I looked at when their trailers debuted in relation to when the movies are/were set to open and worked out the aproximate gap between trailer and release. Now I didn't bother doing this for very many films as - well - I have other things in life to do. But from they few I picked out I'd say we should expect a trailer for TDT within the next month or so.
Title 1st Trailer Premiere Difference
Passengers* 20. september 23. december 3 months
Rogue 1 7. april 14. december 8 months
Deadpool 4. august 11. February 7 months
Inferno* 9. may 28. october 5 months
Trainspotting 2* 2. november 2. march 4 months
Spiderman Homecoming* 8. december 6. july 7 months
Life* 30. october 24. march 5 months
The Dark Tower* ??? 27. July
*movies being produced by Sony
Try and forget that this movie was set to be released in February as having any bearing on when we should be getting a trailer. They are planning their marketing campaign with the July 28th release in mind. The avarage difference is 5.5 months (yeah, looking at just 7 data points is useless, but it is what it is). 5.5 months tracked back from the end of July is the middle of February.
So us not having a trailer yet isn't really THAT strange and I don't understand how anyone can jump to any conclusions about us not having a trailer yet should somehow mean that the movie sucks.
Edit: Just went back to look here and the formatting looks awful. Sorry about that. Hope it is still decipherable.
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion
