Why all the hate?
Haven't been on the board. Haven't followed the film. But everyone is saying this film is a pile of *beep* or garbage? Why?

The excuses range from "a black guy can't play Roland because Roland is based off of a character in a poem that was white and, well...well..." to "Hollywood gunslingers were white and Roland was modeled after them, so Roland should be white too" to "this is Hollywood racism against whites" to "Elba is a terrible actor".

Historically speaking, Hollywood whitewashed the Old West too. Casting-wise, the most recent iteration of The Magnificent Seven is much closer to being an accurate representation of Old West demographics than any Western John Wayne or Clint Eastwood starred in. share
