Elba Looks Like a Bad Ass

Always liked the actor anyway, but for naysayers you gotta admit he does look cool with a bit of swag.

I'm in. Just hope the rest of the film is good.

Wait does he have two intact hands?

I'm not getting when this timeline is supposed to be happening at all.

Free will is a golden thread running through the frozen matrix of fixed events.

reply

As far as the time line, it appears they are simply taking names and places from the books and plugging them into their own narrative. Don't be surprised if the end result is The Dark Tower in name only.

reply

It's looking that way for sure.

reply

Yeah this is an in name only adaption that's obviously being made by a crew who couldn't care less about the books. On the bright side this will be a colossal flop so they won't get chance to butcher it anymore beyond this one film.

Color me surprised. I would think that a man with your precognitive abilities would go out to strike it rich in a lottery and then proceed to fund your own perfect "The Dark Tower" film with the winnings.

As far as I know, the movie's story isn't happening during any timeline we've read about. It's picking up where the end of DT:VII left off and takes place in the next (and presumably, the last) cycle of Roland's journey, as evidenced by the Horn of Eld being in his possession. Assuming they won't add Roland's injuries via CGI, him being physically whole is just one of many things that have changed on this particular journey.

reply

He looks ridiculous. He looks like they've tried desperately hard to make him look cool, to the point where it's just pathetic and because of it he looks nothing like he should in any way at all.

reply

Detta...is that you?

So you've stopped trying to even pretend you have a valid argument then. Good to know.

reply

He looks cooler than you, I wager!

reply

Well I'm not dressed like a matrix reject put through a Wild West filter, so that's a no on that.
Darabont understood how Roland should look (see the painting in the opening of the mist), that is how he should have looked for this. But Arcel is a hack who chose the worst possible choice for Roland and then dressed him in the lamest looking outfit he could.

reply

Still haven't pointed out the "Matrix" bit. No, a longcoat alone doesn't count.

I agree. He should look more western-like. I'm not saying total western cliché look, but somewhere in the middle of the protagonists in spaghetti westerns and this look. He just looks like a protagonist of some bad 90s movie.
