This Movie Doesn't Resemble The Dark Tower In Any Way, Shape Or Form.

And it breaks my fcking heart.

Come quietly, or there will be...trouble.

reply

What heart?

reply

Cussing won't fix your lack of taste in expectation

reply

What is your aversion to swearing?

Listen to them—the children of the night. What music they make!

reply

Yes, much better to wash your artistic aesthetic in compromise and appeasement in any desperate hope to see your "adaptation" come to light.

Are you naturally a snob or is it hard work?

reply

I defend swearing and I'm a snob?

Have to admit, I didn't anticipate that one.

I talk different to different people. I'll leave it for you to decide if I'm a snob. To myself, I'm just a Dude.

reply

Well, at least not the dark tower you created in your mind. I feel the same way, but what are we to do. No two people interpret the written word and exactly the same way. We all wanted to see a movie adaptation. I suppose this is what they mean when they say "be careful what you wish for ".

reply

Try not to forget, Cantwell, that this is a sequel and not entirely an adaptation. Have you read the entire series? I only ask because it makes much more sense when you know the entire story. But things will be different on this turn (so to speak). I'm hoping they get the characters right (as previously mentioned), but also the essence of the story. Unfortunately I think we'll need to see a more finished product to find out if that holds out.

reply

Joann...,

Yes, I have read (rather listened as I drive one hour commute each way to work) The entire story more than one time. Probably closer to four or five times for some ridiculous reason. So, that being said, I am familiar with the story. You stated that you hope they get the characters right. That in itself is already been proven to not be the case, at least in my opinion. I agree that we should be patient but I am not terribly confident from what I have seen so far. On and on related/related note, I truly believe that Elba would make an outstanding James Bond.

reply

To be fair, while The Dark Tower has lots of great stuff, there's a lot of s*** in it too. Nobody wants to see golden snitches, lightsabers or Stephen King as himself, and if you do, you're mad or smoking the same stuff Stephen King was when he wrote it.

reply

How about Doombots on horseback?

reply

Doombots on horseback should be required in every work of fiction. They only serve to improve the work.

Cantwells, I'm surprised you can tell with such certainty that the characters are already all wrong. Did you gleam that knowledge from the unfinished teaser trailer, a copy of the script, or the few pictures and articles that have been made available to us? I'm genuinely curious. I wasn't trying to be condescending when I asked if you had read the entire series. I mean, how was I to know? I just don't see where the evidence is that proves the characters are all wrong and the story's heart is not intact.

reply

Well, to be fair, the Harry Potter films omitted plenty of unnecessary things, and that film series still remarkably resembles the source material. I would have no problem editing King out of the story-line, but what we are getting instead is absolute rubbish.

Come quietly, or there will be...trouble.

reply

Same here Bro but let's just let this instaturd bomb at the cinema and kill off any possible chances of continuation forcing King to think clearly before handing over his prose to story shredding Arcels, Goldiggers and associated buzzkillers.

Stephen King penned a Universe populated with characters we grew up loving that crossed over into so many of his works that it became unthinkable that they could ever be considered unworthy of mention in this, the Magnum Opus of his life's work.

Maybe then you, me and the entire DTT collective will get the proper series of films that actually follow the plot we've read and re-read in the close on 35 years since The Gunslinger was published.

This rendition? Magnum Opus (my Arse) more like Majorly Hopeless and destined to fail.

Rip it up and start again

reply

The film is not just for diehard fans, brother.

reply

Yeah,(trying desperately not to use the High Speech but being irresistibly drawn to it) "You say true and I thankya"

So this Tower is a bust and that's that. No semblance to the series that I've caught in my minds eye when reading nor dreams when I'm sleeping.

Each updated news feed and Tweet from the King made my own Heart sink even though I still hoped it was all a twisted joke being played out on the faithful constant readers, but it's way past the point where a joke that harsh could ever return the trust of even the hardiest follower.

Guess we'll just have to move on and hope the same approach isn't used on "It" and "The Stand"

Thankee Sai, I'll keep the memories of what could have been and burnoff this film

reply

Right. It's for morons who will consume anything, such as yourself.

Always a treat to see what a "true fan" that is also supposedly a father is like .

reply

erm did you just imply someone's parenting is debatable and or laughable based on opinions they've made about a movie on a movie discussion board? Did i really just read that? omfg seriously?

reply

I expect a father to behave more maturely than DeadOrAliveYerComingWithMe has behaved during the entirety of his appearances on this board....and others.

By the way? This whole "Coral Thorin siding with the bad boys" act really isn't working out for you.

So you equate someone's parenting as being on par with how they conduct themselves on a movie discussion board? Not only ridiculous, but pretty damn offensive.

No idea what you're talking about, if you want to read more into my opinions then what's there, go ahead though. Your opinions on parenting vs. what people write on a movie discussion board shows you have a somewhat skewed way of thinking anyway.

reply

Not only ridiculous, but pretty damn offensive.

Yes, I am sure the barbs lanced at your heart . Forgive me for thinking that parents ought to set better standards than those of the "angry fanboy".

No idea what you're talking about

Interesting. Isn't there a troll somewhere you have to defend with PR spin?

reply

There's nothing at all to suggest someone's opinions or conduct on a message board have anything to do with how they parent a child, that's a gross generalisation with no merit.

Go ahead and assume my opinions are agenda based if you will.

reply

I suggest you become acquainted with this particular poster. Your opinion might change.

Then again, given who you have tried to quasi-defend, it might not.

I think it goes more to the way they treat their fellow posters. To be so disrespectful as to call someone a moron, 'tard, or fling other namecalling just because they're open to the ideas/changes in this project and can accept that the movie won't be a 1:1 adaptation, I would certainly hope they are not passing on that deplorable trait to their children. If they pass judgment like that based on someone expressing their opinions/ideas, god only knows what kind of judgments they make based on witnessing behaviors out in the real world, and as an extension, what they will teach their kids when expressing those judgments...

I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.
