Huge SK fan.. but to be honest

Ive read all 8 books and really liked the entire DT series..in fact it kind of suprises me that ive barely kept up with the production of this film being the gigantic SK fan that iam.... but my favorite SK book of all time is also being re-adaptaded this year.. and that is IT.. something I'm far far far far FAR more stoked for.. ive stayed glued to any production material I can find... I was wondering if there was anyone else like me... or in reverse where they are totally glued to all info for this film versus that of Andres Muschetti's take on IT?

thoughts?

I'm probably in a middle category of sorts. I first got into Stephen King because of watching the IT mini series when I was a kid. Scared me to my very core and lead me to a few years of being unsettled by clowns and bathrooms! It lead me to reading the novel and from there on many, many other King novels. He is by far the author I've read the most novels by.

But none of them have captivated me quite like The Dark Tower series parts I-IV. The last three entries I liked a bit less tbh. But I don't know... IT already has it's adaptation I feel like. In that respect this new IT-film almost feel like an adaptation of the mini series. I know that's not really true but it just means I'm a little less interested. I mean I will watch it for sure. And after TDT it's the movie I'm keeping the most tabs on here on IMDb.

But I'm checking these forums daily. Hoping for when the trailer breaks. I haven't been this excited about a movie since I was much, much younger.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

I'm pretty much the exact same but with the IT re-adaptaion...

My dad (R.I.P.) got me onto SK when I was about 9 or so... the first three books I read of his were, Cycle of the Werewolf, Skeleton Crew and The Gunslinger... ever since than ive devoured as many of his books as I can (and I still haven't read them all)

I hadn't read the novel before I saw the 1990 mini-series which just like you to my very very very core scared the shi* out of me.. it took me a few years to finally garner the courage to read the novel.. and after having done so it is def my top SK novels, even moreso than the Stand which most "constant readers" seem to agree is his best...

After having read the book as many times as I have... I feel the 90 Tv mini-series was a giant letdown.. so much was changed and omitted that it is basically the barest bones of the story.. now granted how much could be shown on network TV so I can forgive them that... but here we are 27 years later..a supposed HARD R version is gonna be hitting actual cinemas.. and everything ive seen in production material seems to allude to a much closer representation of the novel

as far as the TDT goes I loved all of them up till part 5.... The Wolves of the Callaha I felt like I was forcing myself to finish... so I'm a lot like you in those regards, where as I liked the last 3 books less and less, through Wind Through the Keyhole was a nice little tale within the saga... a

s far as all the casting changes and all this other crap that this film is getting I an easily ignore.. Idris Elba is a good actor and I think hes got the chops to pull it off...

My one only real issue is I read an exert somtime ago how this movie basically takes place after the final book.. but with Roland attaining the Horn of Eld so I'm expecting a loosely adapated version here....

I mean don't get me wrong I'm stoked for this... just not as much as returning to Derry...

and just like you I haven't been this excited for a film in a long long long time.. just IT for me

The fact that they're butchering both in the same year is a little disconcerting.

How are they butchering IT in your opinion?

I can understand the criticism for TDT... But not IT

They're changing the time periods and adding a bestiality scene to be edgy.

The timeline change is only a minor detail.. and the bestiality scene was never going to make it in the first lace, it was part of the reason Carey left the project...

got anything else to explain why you think itll be a bust? Because so far you gave me two flimsy and petty reasons...

Let me guess... Bevs hair being short hurts you also right?

reply

Well, I'm sure with the director of Mama everything will be A-Okay, my friend.

And if you think changing the time periods is a "minor" detail, then you can't see the forest for the trees any ol' way.

I thought Mama was complete and utter *beep* but from a technical aspect Andres shot it well... blame the writer for the *beep* script

Explain to me how changing the timelines is so utterly significant to the story that changing it from 1958 to 1989 destroys the entire concept of the film?

But like 99% of the folks who complain about *beep* like that your too obtuse to realize that RARELY IN THE HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD HAS THERE BEEN AN EXACT ADAPATAION... but of course lets not wrap our heads around that instead... lets bitch and moan about small things.. like the timeline change... like Will Hanlon's named being changed to Leroy.. like Bevs hair being short... simple minded petty *beep* to cry about.. we get it your perpetually asshurt about movies that don't follow its source material to the letter... I guess than by that logic you hate every single film that's adapted from an outside source material...

I mean if that's the case then I'm sure you HATE the 1990 TV movie adaptation sine that barely followed the book at all... oh and they changed the timeline in that one also just from the late 50s to the early 60s... but keep on keeping on there big guy... ;)
