How are you outraged people so sure about the casting motivations?

Were you involved in the casting? Do you have memos that dictate the requirement of casting according to a "progressive or mixed-race quota"? Are you all Hollywood insiders with direct lines to the producers of this film?

OR...

Are you just sensitive and angry about what you perceive as a shift away from the values you ascribe to and towards a world of popular culture/entertainment that is somehow lesser than the one you've circled around from your oh, so specific point of view?

I can understand the frustrations of having characters that you might adore being adapted for a new medium (though it happens with just about every single adaptation since the advent of cinema), but to put the blame so assuredly on SJWs or racial politics is just so *beep* silly!

You know nothing! Absolutely nothing! You speak from positions of authority, but have none! You are not involved in any aspect of the makings of the entertainment you seek, and, rest assured, it is simply entertainment! Put together by a small group of artists and financiers to satisfy their unique artistic and market demands! The fanbase for these books is MINUSCULE compared to what is required to get a movie sold through.

Stop speaking as though you know why things happen the way they do, because you don't! You have opinions! Small-minded, uninformed opinions!

And I say this as someone who IS actually working on an aspect of this movie, and who DOES have some firsthand knowledge of its making, and KNOWS that you're all full of *beep* Believe me or not, but I'm just exhausted by the insane amount of ignorance here (and in the world at large).

Yeah the whole 'I'm working on the movie' bit is so believable, not obviously fake at all.
And people know it's PC casting because they have working brains and have actually read the books, you try doing that. Also don't forget that hack Goldsman's everyone's a racist who disagrees with the casting statement (an obvious sign when they're already playing the racist card).

And I'm not working on the movie itself, only the marketing of it, but that's a likely an unimportant distinction to someone with a working brain. So, never you mind!

And congrats on your ability to pick up on such "obvious signs" as the disagreement of the film's writer to allegations of PC casting by uninformed morons such as yourself! You're quite the detective!

Also, where can I pick up some of those "racist cards"? They certainly seem to come in handy!

Marketing for The Dark Tower? So, when does that start? Poster? Trailer? Official website? Anything?

I don't have anything to do with the timing of materials, just the basis for (some of) the materials themselves. There are a lot of links in the chain between myself and what goes out into the world.

Course you are, you're definitely not a sad little Elba fanboy whose never even heard of the Dark Tower before now pretending to be working on the film.

And you can deny it all you want, but the fact is that Goldsman proved it was all a PC publicity stunt when he played the racist card so quickly.

To be fair, I can imagine that I too would be annoyed if I were so closely associated with a production and folks were yammering on about "PC" and "SJW" with no evidence...especially given that such accusations are essentially a one-way street.

If you actually read what the social media manager said, you'd realize what he considered the motivation of the casting choice was: marketing potential.

I.e., the studio deems the source material alone not marketable enough, so they had to use a black lead to generate controversy and media approval. It also had to be specifically a black male, due to black actors being already normal since forever, yet it's still convenient to label any critic as racists.

Were they actually serious about racial diversity, they'd have considered at least an Asian, Arab, Native American, Indian, or better yet, a transsexual Indonesian to play Roland. But of course they didn't do that because...marketing.

So they made the safe and convenient choice. And a very cynical one.

Or maybe that, y'know, the actor in question is currently a hot up-and-coming talent on the broader Hollywood field they wanted to utilize to his fullest potential.

The word talent should never be used to describe Elba, he's the fad actor of the moment who basically plays the same part in everything. And since Roland is not a generic cop character, he shouldn't be anywhere near it. The only reason he was cast was to create controversy and let them play the racist card when fans reacted against it.

oh sh** they put a black guy in a film, hahahah, dont matter cos the books are never gonna be realised on screen, they are too long with too much information to fit anything meaningful into a film thats about 2 hours long

oldkentucky, don't worry . I do my part to separate the fact from the opinion trying desperately to masquerade itself as fact.

In a way, this casting decision was a boon. Not only did it help to reveal some of the worst aspects of the The Dark Tower fanbase, but it also contributes to the much needed discussion of fair ethnic (and I mean that in the broad sense of all human ethnicities...not as a codeword for "non whites") representation in Hollywood.

P.S. Spider198 is a notorious troll (in fact he once argued that people involved in the production of this film not to mention at least one actor should suffer bodily injury to keep the film from going forward...yeah, he's that bad). Don't pay him too much attention.
