Saw an advanced screening last night

My husband and I saw an advanced screening last night and we loved it. It's a good story and pretty believable. I thought it had a good balance of comedy, action (the fights and his training) and drama (the reason he's doing the fighting). He also looks believable as a former wrestler. His training to prepare for the movie slimmed/toned him. My husband, who is a runner and lifter at one point said "Look at his neck muscles."
There were some really hilarious moments. I liked the cast. I normally don't like Henry Winkler at all and I liked his character in this movie. It gets major points if it made me like Henry Winkler! :)
Overall, it was the best movie I've seen Kevin James in since Hitch and I'd say it's worth a viewing. Probably won't win any awards, except maybe a moonman from MTV, but it's a decent movie.

Yeah. I think it will please audiences, especially his fans. He was really good in this.

..... but would you pay to see it? I'm assuming it was a free gofobo screening. I received an "invite" to see it earlier today.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Henry Winkler's whiny, neurotic mannerism annoyed me in some places, but overall it was a funny, entertaining movie. Everyone loves to root for an underdog. I haven't seen Hitch or Paul Blart but I did catch that zoo movie with Rosie Dawson on TV--this is many notches above. I'm shocked this came out of Happy Madison Productions.

I got an invite for a screening this Thursday. I have middling expectations but the trailer does look better than the ones for Mall Cop and Zookeeper did.

Where and how do you guys get these "invites" to watch the movies?

This town deserves a better class of criminal, and i'm gonna give it to em.

Gofobo. Most of their screenings are set as private, but since last year, I've gotten invites to see Warrior, Project X, That's My Boy, and now this film all in advance.

I usually see them in my local newspapers on Fridays in the "Ticket" section (the special Friday pullout section that has art/entertainment/movie listings.) They'll usually have a small 1/4 page ad about an advance screening on a first come, first serve basis. They are usually over-booked as well. It's not available in all cities, but most big cities do this.

Edit -
Actually, a quick Google search yielded me this:

Just enter your city name and you'll see which theaters are showing advance screenings.

The person above me is correct, as the site I posted eventually took me to Gofobo. Once I registered, I was able to get free tickets to tomorrow advance screening of Here Comes The Boom. Free of charge, but I know the theater will be packed. I probably won't even go.

I recently wrote a piece for my website on this very subject:

The sometimes hand them out at theaters too. They were trying to give me one for FLIGHT (Denzel Washington) for a Thursday showing at the theater I came out of. I told them I couldn't take it because I had to work. By the time I got out of work, the theater would be full. The last time I went to a screen it was for "A Knight's Tale" (that's a long time ago). I went with my wife and she took so long to get there. I had saved seats, but because she missed the first 10 mins, she didn't want to stay and watch it. I was so pissed. I ended up watching on cable a couple months later. If you end want to go to screening, go by yourself. There are usually 1 seat scattered around the theater. Best thing to do it get there early. Actually I did go and see a screening of Shoot Em up (Clive Owen) and Balls of Fury (Dan Fogler & Christopher Walken) while attending the San Diego ComicCon. Clive Owen actually came to the theater. I had to move to the other side of the theater so he could sit by our seats. lol!! Shoot Em Up was decent. Critics didn't care for it much. Balls of Fury was crap. Dan Fogler and James Hong was there, but everyone was looking for Maggie Q & George Lopez. Movie wasn't that funny and I was shock the Mr. Walken wasted his time with that crappy script. I'm sure he was just looking for the pay day. Best part was Seth Green sitting in from of me. He was pretty cool.
